Post subject: Contra tail rotor |
|
|
Hi. Just joined this excellent forum.
I have a "Contra". Great little flyer but had same 'accident' ie. resulting in tail rotor losing one of its blades.
Can't get rotor off the rear spindle to replace it.
Have tried pulling it as there doesn't seem to be ANY screw holding it on.
Now I'm afraid of damaging the unit. Have PHONED - WRITTEN - "ONLINE HELPED" BananaHobby and am really getting pissed off with their SLOW response time!
I sympathise with the other person having the same problem. I appreciate the rather 'radical' solution offered by way of severing the rotor from the spindle. Er! Not quite sure about that either.
I can't believe that the Contra doesn't offer an easy way to repair such a vulnerable and easily damaged part.
SO, if any of you out there KNOW how to remove and replace this rather CRITICAL part, PLEASE tell us!! Thanks! |

Personally I don't have this heli so have no clue, magyarbacsi's recommendation doesn't seem all that radical though. And it sounds like it's your only choice. Unless changing out the entire tail boom gear/box is an option?
At any rate, welcome to the forum! The population is somewhat lower here, but because of that it's also much more personal. I hope you stick around! _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Thanks Nick - I certainly intend to, if only to try and find some answer to this FRUSTRATING problem (for others too apparently!), because sure as heck, BANANA HOBBY are as useful to me as a chocolate fireguard at the moment!! (You could say, it's driving me BANANAS - groan! - not even this was worth THAT!) Hey, in the world of RC helis, I guess you have to have a sense of humour, however weird or strained.
Happy flying folks. I hope to join you - EVENTUALLY! |

This method is a highbred of another method I noticed mentioned back in Sept. They stated that they basically broke off the 3 blades close to the hub, then use some type of sharp tool to cut the rest off.
The way I did it was much faster and safer. Use a dremel tool, with the small sanding attachment that is shaped like a pencil sraser. The grit should be vary coarse 80 grit area. Use a sprue cutter and cut off the blades, then take the Dremel sanding spool and crank it uo to about 15,000 rpm. The remaining plastic will come off like butter.
Then push the new tail rotor on with a wide pair of pliers.
When I brake another one of these damn things tomorrow, I think I might do the process on Utube, I know how much simple processes and instructions can really help. _________________ BMoose |

Bubbamoose is correct: I spent 30 mins trying to pry that stupid tail rotor off. All I was able to do is to pull the metal pin out of the tail and not of the rotor. Then I took a very small saw and tried to saw it off. I did more damage to my thumb than to the rotor.
After having read the comments here I went and got my Sonicrafter (basically a non-spinning but vibrating dremel). It took 5 secs and the thing came of clean. The problem is that there a grooves on the pin and they just hold the rotor so firmly that you really can't pull it off without ruining other parts.
I used water pump pliers to put the new rotor back on, which works perfectly. Spins like a charm! |
