Post subject: Another question Re:Quark's heading hold |

Another question / observation about the Quark's heading hold gyro. The thing is, I now have the gyro gain set up so that she flies rock solid no matter how long my flight is. (It used to be that after about 5 minutes the tail hold looses its effectiveness).
Now though, what happens is that when I land and take off again, the nose will drift left.
But if I land and turn the power off and let the gyro re-initialize the tail drift doesn't happen.
It's really puzzling Any with the same symptom? |

I sometimes also get that effect. I think it has to do with the tail motor loosing its effective over time and the gyro doesn't account for that for some reason. Once you reinitialize the gyro it sort-of recalculates and and takes the effectiveness of the tail motor into account. That's what I think anyways |

I use to have that effect also, but after trimming the rudder a little more the effect goes away. |

Ok after countless hours of flying I think I understand this effect a little better. Basically, if you fly the helicopter for more than 5 minutes and land then take off again before 1 minute of rest, the tail-drift effect will occur.
If you fly straight for 10 minutes, the effect doesn't happen (not on my Quark but my friend suffers from the drift about 7 minutes in).
If you do land after a 5 minutes, the drift effect won't happen if you rest the heli for more than 2 minutes.
That's just my personal observation. Feel free to add to it or correct it. |
