Is it possible to fly the Blade 400 at a constant rpm, and just vary the pitch. By this I mean, from the ground, you flip a switch to get the blades up to full rpm but at zero pitch. Then as you raise the throttle, the pitch starts to increase and the heli lifts off. Isn't this the way a real heli works. Why is it better to have the rpm and the pitch change at the same time. FOr the above, I'm not talking stunt mode where you get negative pitch. I'm wondering if this way of control would be harder or easier for a beginner. |

Hi Haze,
As the pitch increases you need more power to compensate for the blade drag. Running as you suggest the rpm would be at maximum at zero pitch and then drop as the pitch increases. Not ideal for a beginner or the heli.
In 'Idle Up' the blades are rarely at zero pitch for more than a fraction of a second, so the motor hardly has a chance to over rev.
Quick edit just noticed the real heli part:
The real heli has a throttle on the collective lever. You advance the throttle as you increase the collective. Then move forward until transitional lift kicks in when you can start your climb. Vertical liftoff is only used when obstructions prevent forward motion.
