Post subject: Blade 400 violent tail spin |
|

Hello all,
I recently obtained a Blade 400 used and proceeded to crash it in less than 10 seconds. So I repaired it and am trying to get it trimmed out. The problem I am having is that when I throttle up to make it light on the skids at a point it goes into a violent tail spin counter clockwise. I'm pretty new to this hobby and really don't know where to start. Even when starting to throttle up I have to give it alot of right rudder. I know some is normal but this is like full right and if I punch the throttle then it goes to the spin. I suspect something with the gyro but am not sure. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Kent, two things to check first:
1: Are the tail blades the correct way around and moving up into the rotor wash at the leading edge?
2: Is the gyo reversed?
Either will cause a violent spin if not correct.

Hey tombo,
You are correct in the tail blades going the wrong direction. While I was waiting for a reply I "checked the basics" and that is what I found. Someone put it together backwards. I didn't know this and I believe that is why I crashed it in the first place. Any way I reversed the belt and the blades and the chopper flies now. Thanks for your reply.

Your very welcome Kent, its not the first heli to have its tail reversed - far too easy to do unless you're very careful.
