Hey guys , I'm considering a blade 450 purchase. This one is rtf and includes dx6i ,which sounds almost too good to be true for $500 bucks. It's from nitrodude in Canberra. If this turns out to be for real I'll buy it only after weighing up any comments and advice from you ,my mentors. The inclusion of a tx is timely[ if true ] as I kind of damaged my favorite futaba [reversing over them in your car can be slightly detrimental to their function ] Anyway , all opinions will be taken on board as usual. thanks. _________________ amatuers built the ark, professionals built the titannic. |

Blade makes good stuff. I don't see how you can go wrong with Blade. I aim to get one also w/o the TX'r.

Yep, a brand new Blade 450 3D RTF w/ DX6i transmitter is $469.99 USD.
I have one and it's a great heli. I'm looking forward to the release of its flybarless iteration, the Blade 450 X. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Thanks for the confirmation on this question Jack,Nick. I have only one concern about a bulletin posted on the web regarding P.I.D. numbers, and stating a problem about stick potentiometers.I realise this is and old post but was wondering if these problems have all been addressed by now.Hope so as my fingers are twitching already .Going tomorrow. _________________ amatuers built the ark, professionals built the titannic. |

Yeah it was handled. Any DX6i you buy now shouldn't be affected by that old recall. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

I've not had any problems with either of my DX6I's.

While I am not a Blade flyer or Spektrum user, I do admit they have an excellent lineup of products and am impressed with their customer service feedback. I'd go for it if I had the funds available. _________________ E-Razor 450 + Air Hogs Pocket Copter + Radd's School of Rotary Flight = Teh Awesomness |

Does'nt anyone fly mode 2 in Australia ,all I've ever flown is mode 2 .Mode 1 has always been an alien concept to my hands .So I must be patient and await delivery. I'm with you Americans on this ,mode 1 is weird. _________________ amatuers built the ark, professionals built the titannic. |

Mode 1 is actually a more precise control set-up for Fixed Wing. But on Heli's I think it's acedemic, as you are waggling everything all the time to control the beast !
On Fixed Wing - interaction of the two primary cntrols - elevator and aileron cannot be avoided with Mode 2. You move stick to input a touch of elevator and stick just wanders of line a touch - aileron gets in there.
I once met hanno Prettner - the World RC Aerobatics Champ for many years ... no-one copuld get near him. He illustrated it so well and also suggested that was why "Our Ken" in UK could never beat him .. Hanno used Mode 1, Kenny used Mode 2. When you watched the two perform ... there it was ... clean aileron / elevator stuff tracking spot on with Hanno .. others like Kenny with Mode 2 were not so nailed into clean ...
Many quote Mode 2 as the better way as it mimics a real plane with joystick ... as I don't fly full size - I regard that as an excuse to justify Mode 2.
I am a dedicated Mode 2 flyer in all and know well Hanno's reason - as I see it in my flying ... not quite spot on tracking ...
There is one other area that Mode 1 excels .... if you are right handed and lefts about as useless as a witches knickers ... hand launching. The elevator is under your left thumb !

I would not consider mode 1 at all. Perhaps because I have never flown in a side by side pilot/copilot craft, I have never experienced a right handed throttle. The right handed stick has always had elevator/aileron control, throttle with gunsight ranging on left. When I first flew a radio control model the pulse button was on the right. (It moved the rudder only into 1 of 3 positions; left, center, right, center on each press.) Power was a 10 sec flat out burst then the fuel ran out and you glided it down.
A test glide before flight was essential as an out out of trim craft with rudder only, 30 m or more high was rather worrying. I have not changed much from this. My RC models should glide with hands off the controller and no power. If they do not then they need setting up until they do. Full power results in a climb, so in a hand launch it will climb away, not having control of the right stick for the first second or two is no problem, I have the power stick under control at all times and can control the climb.
Solentlife is absolutely right about the difficulty of not mixing a little elevator and rudder when using the right stick. However, as I have no intention of ever flying in a 3D contest I never notice much of a problem here. Perhaps pinching gently gives a more precise control over the stick direction than a big thumb on top. I do not know or care - each to their own here, I've never flown an aircraft with my thumb real, or otherwise so I cannot judge.
He is also right about the helicopter mode 2, it is a very natural way to fly them and you often need to instinctively mix the two in various proportions (4 channels and up only here).
Couldn't resist putting my oar in here .
