i'm considering buying a Blade Scout but i've heard that it being a 3-channel, the controls are a little different to flying like a Blade CX2, for example. anyone have any satisfaction with this little bird? _________________ blade cx2

As you have a Blade 400 i assume you have a DX6i radio. If you want a small indoor bird why not just go for the Bnf Mcx or the new msr x. They are both four channel and can be operated from your existing radio.
You are correct the scout is three channel. |

chopper54, thx so much for the quick response. i actually have the mcpx as well as the spektrum dx6i. but i just wanted to get my daughter into something semi-decent to fly and the one i had bought her in the mall, seemed fine for a while but, as you know, are really quite crap since the internal battery craps out and the heli is now quite useless. i thought this Scout might be a nice place to start. i'm sort of an intermediate; can you tell me what the 3-channel is lacking in controls?

The three channel tx has throttle only on the left stick. Forward, back, turn left and right on right stick. There is no aileron for sliding sideways.
From the HH website it looks like the battery charges from the handset.

Its probably ok for a total newbie but i still think the mcx would be better even if you have to get the Rtf with tx. Better for the thumbs to learn four channel straight off than have to relearn later on. |

hey man, solid advice; cheers! sounds like the mcx may be worth the extra cash to get a proper machine. greatly appreciated HH link and tips.
btw, what is your bird of choice to fly? i've been loving my mcpx to learn on because i can fly indoors and it doesn't get damaged upon crashing. i'm working toward flying my 400 more comfortably but i've had one blade strike and it suffered a bit of (unvisible) damage - i can power it up fully but i'm getting no lift (something must be wrong with my pitch adjustment; or perhaps it's not tracking right) anyway, good chatting with a pro cuz my hobby shop guy is quite an amateur.
cheers,
brent
ps. where in suffolk do you live? what's your weather like over there now? do you fly throughout the winter months? _________________ blade cx2

Hi pattystacker
I'm certainly no pro, i'm just an r/c heli fan like yourself, but i will answer queries if i think i can help. My little fleet consists of Blades mcx, mcx tandem, msr, and two 120 sr for indoor practice all bound to a DX6i. For outside i have Blade SR c/p, B400, B450 3D and a t-rex 450 pro all bound to a second DX6i. I dont do any 3d stuff i just fly gently round the garden and practice fine control plus take off and landings. I have mangled the SR c/p a few times but that is cheap to crash and easy to repair. Its a couple of months since i did any outdoor heli flying its been too windy at the weekend and its dark when i get home from work. It has been a mild winter so far its just that wind.
If you are fairly new to the hobby you will find this site interesting.

If you have a lift problem with the 400 check to see if you have stripped a servo. They are plastic and strip quite easily. A blade strike will often bend the feathering shaft and possibly the main shaft so you should check them too. Pre flight checks and maintenance are very important on helicopters. Try looking on youtube for set up video's on the b400. Loads of info to be found on there. If you need more help with the b400 try to give as much info as you can, we have quite a few members with that heli and some body will have the answer.
Do you know Suffolk. I live in Bury St Edmunds. |

hey man, thanks so much. i will look to see if my servo is wrecked. also the feathering shaft (tho i'm not sure what that is at this point; i'll check my parts manual diagram) the main shaft? that sounds like a major repair. i think you are more pro than you are letting on! if you have a t-rex, ur no intermediate! haha. i will do some research on youtube for repair tips.
no, i do not kno suffolk; i'm just geo curious; also travelled a bit through uk 15 yrs ago and i find it an amazing country. (our mother land you know, as a canadian) anyway, thanks again. i'll be in touch if i need more advice/questions and also re: what new little bird i end up with.
cheers mate.
