Post subject: Can't get the Contra off the ground |
|
|
I am wondering if anyone knows of any weak points on the Contra that prevents it from taking off. At first I thought the battery wasn't fully charged but basically it seems like there just isn't enough power anymore to get her off the ground. Lots of noise but not enough lift. It used to fly but after very minor crashes it won't lift. I feel like it has to be a result of the crashes (like maybe something is rubbing/causing friction thereby preventing full power for lift). By visual inspection, everything looks normal. Any ideas? _________________ BlitzRC Golden Contra

Check to be sure the motor pinion gear is not slipping on the motor shaft. also be sure the main gears are not slipping on the main rotor shaft.
If your hrlicopter has a Lipo battery I hope you didn't run the battery all the way down. Lipo batteries don't like to get below 3 volts per cell. If you do get them to low they will not charge up again.
good luck with the fix.
You could buy a new helicopter battery to be sure it's not a bad battery.

Thanks Jack. I'm pretty certain it's not the batteries. I have 4 LiPo batteries that have never been below about 40%. Last time I flew, I charged all 4 and quit on the third battery. I'll check all the motor pinion gear and post any positive results. _________________ BlitzRC Golden Contra

Hi!
I too have a Contra that when I first attempted to fly it ended up crashing resulting in replacing the tail rotor and the main motor pinion gear had 'slipped' away from the main gear.
As Pj stated I positioned the main motor pinion gear once again to engage the main gear and tightened it down and all was well.
Hope this helps! _________________ Keep Em Flying

I took a close look at the main gear again and it looks like there are a few teeth missing. I ordered a new one from Banana and this should fix the problem. I'll post a complete status when the repairs are completed and it's airborne again. Thanks everyone. _________________ BlitzRC Golden Contra

Hey folks....noticed a few of you fellow Contra owners are looking to BH for parts. Go to ebay...lots there under V200D02 or CB180D, which both are same parts as Contra and are IN STOCK, unlike BH, which is giving me bad taste in my mouth for service. motors, main gears (gone through three of those already) and blades are in plenty.
I knew right away the main gear was slipping after a crash. i am thinking of investing in the in-line breaker that shuts the ESC down in case of over-revving motors.
Contra has not been very fun yet. |

Hello -
I have found and ordered both main and tail rotors from the following:
http://www.helipal.com/spare-part_walkera-parts_cb180d.html
Purchased in multi packs of three each at what I thought was a good price and their shipping is not bad as compared to elsewhere.
Have had my contra up and hovering am not giving up on this helo. My mistake was going from a 3 channel right to this helo without appreciating the learning curve going from a 3 channel to a 4 channel helo.
Keep them flying! _________________ Keep Em Flying

Sorry for the late update on this but I finally had time to make the repairs and take her up. It was indeed the main gear and after I replaced it (literally clipped away at the old gear to get it off) it was back to normal.
I also really appreciate the advice on spare parts from a store other than BH. Let's just say that I need more main rotor blades.
Thanks everyone for your help. _________________ BlitzRC Golden Contra
