Hi Astraman,
Never done this on a tail motor heli (never had one, never want one) but as I see it the gyro would have to drive an ESC for the tail motor instead of the usual tail servo. The existing one is almost certainly a brushed motor and you could use this chance to upgrade it to a brushless motor. Might even be cheaper in the long run as brushed ESCs tend to be much dearer than brushless - IF you can get one of the right size. The indoor sub-micro planes use some very small brushless motors and ESCs so you could look there.
Here's a pic of the brushless motor I'm using in a sub-micro P51:
Click for full size.)
Here's where I got two of them.
As you can see it is only 13.4mm in diameter, only weighs a few grams and barely hits 10 grams together with its' ESC.
Your existing servos should be no problem driven direct from the new Rx, it's the tail that may be the problem. Be an interesting project for you.

Hi Tom, the brushless motor and ESC are no problem for the upgrade, before i go down that line i am going to see if i can resolve the 3-1 system, i wish i had never purchased this but we all learn by our mistakes !, But then again that's the enjoyment of the hobbie, like to get the brain working, i also have a walkera Hiko 400 likes nice flys well.
Thanks for the reply i will solve it but as they say 2 heads are better then one for these sticky little Problems ?.

Hi Tim,
I am assuming that this is the model you have.
If so then the three servos will connect straight to the radio along with the ESC. The gyro will plug into the Rx rudder channel the single wire into the Rx gear channel (works the HH and Rate modes) and the servo lead connector to the tail motor ESC. The 3-in-1 is now redundant.
Hope this helps, it's the way I connect with Spektrum RC it on my helis.

Hi Tim,
Yes, I've seen that post, I agree with the angle of the roller suggestion. (Was it Admiral?) The belt would have to be very slack otherwise.
