Post subject: CP3 Receiver Antenna? |
|
|
I've just received my second CP3 and noticed there is no receiver antenna . My first one has a 1.5 inch long antenna extending from the receiver, the new one nothing. Both receiver have the same part number. Don't dare fly it until I've found out. I've e-mailed Xheli today but no answer yet. Any ideas anyone? _________________ Black & Gold Honeybee CP3

You have done exactly what I would have recommended. Make sure that everything is OK before proceeding and then do a full range check as you should anyway.
Guessing that the new Rx has a ferrite rod internal aerial is not a good ideal, you MUST know for sure! _________________ Keep Smiling |

How do I range check with the new 2.4ghz systems. I used to fly rc planes 25 years ago and would put the antenna all the way down in tx and walk back from plane and make sure there was positve servo movement at least 50 feet away, motor not running of course. Tx antenna on my CP3 is a short non retractable type. _________________ Black & Gold Honeybee CP3

You should have a "Trainer Switch" on the Tx. This is used to bind the model to the Tx and also to range check.
Your manual should tell you how but the usual routine it to turn on the Tx. Connect the heli, then holding the Trainer switch in the ON position. Check for control while moving away some 27M or 90 feet (about 30 good paces). If you still have full control with the Trainer switch ON, then you are OK to fly. Range check done. _________________ Keep Smiling |

I rechecked the manual, no mention of range checking. Went to Xheli "chat help" and asked them about the missing antenna and they at first said it was OK. I asked on how to range check and they said it can't. They then offered to send me a new receiver, free of charge. I'll try range checking the way you described but I'm going to wait for the first flight until after I get the new rx installed. Thanks for the advice. _________________ Black & Gold Honeybee CP3

I took the new CP3 outside today with motors disconnected and did a "range check". At 40 feet I lost radio connection, this was with not touching trainer switch. No paddle movement at all. Good thing I didn't try to fly it! It also took a long time for the rx light to stop flashing red when battery was connected. My other CP3 rx goes to solid green in a second or less. _________________ Black & Gold Honeybee CP3

It is the relocating of the receiver which is the point in that paragraph; and not necessarily the standard type of set up.
With a hole made in the body shell in an appropriate position, the antenna tube can be relocated and mounted elsewhere, with a little ingenuity.
Maximum range, rather than sufficient range is the aim.
