Hey Y'all, I have a double horse 9104 that isn't functioning correctly and from all the great input i've received on this forum, the common concensus is the gyro on the main board is shot... I was thinking about converting it to a 4 channel but am not 100% sure how to do it or what tools I need.

I know I would have to replace the controller (main board?), the swashplate?, add a servo? and get a new transmitter..

Any idea how much this would cost me to do or if it would even be worth it?

Platinum, that has to be the nicest 9104 i've ever seen......!!!!! It seems like it would cost a bit to do though... Might be a cool project for me.... I just bought a big lama and it should be here soon.... Would i be able to use the transmitter for the big lama on the modded 4ch 9104? or would I have to buy another transmitter??

Hi mjg44mjg,

It is 2.4GHz 4Ch right!
Yes, you be able to use the transmitter for the big lama on the modded 4ch 9104.
I stand by you.

Wow platinum that is some impressive ingenuity.

On the other hand, mjg44, you could always just get a Blade 120 SR if you didn't want to do all that work.

You right nick_.
Thanks for your comment.

Here is the history :
I bought 9104 because it rather big single rotor at cheap price (535mm main rotor dia).
I flew it for a few day it quite well. I like the way it landing... vertically down to the ground softly no any side way movement (rigid locked swashplate not to move side way only move fore and aft) and its durable blades.
The main reason I made the conversion because I was not familiar with the 3Ch Tx (throttle sitck on the right side)
and also want to use my common fleet Tx with it.
I had all parts to work with in my stock no need to spend more at the time.
Have fun to make the things work together (changing and adding seems easy, the hard part is setting).

I was actually looking at a few different blade models... the 120sr was one of them.. I'm looking for a good 4ch fp.. to fly after I master the lama, hence my interest in modding my 9104... I was just thinking about the mod cuz like platinum said, its a big cheap single rotor heli that probably would take a little work but would be a nice big 4 channel once done... Any other recommendations on a nice 4 ch fp heli? Let me know

Thanks guys

I agree, it seems like an interesting/fun project.

On the other hand, I would want to be in the air ASAP. Is getting a Blade and still keeping the 9104 as a side-project financially feasible for you? That's what I'd do.

Walkera has some flybarless FPs out that look pretty interesting, but I can't tell you if they actually fly well or not. I don't think you can go wrong with the Blade 120 SR, its very agile for how incredibly stable it is, I don't think you'd regret it.

Nick, thats probably what I'll do... I just purchased a big lama for my 1st 4 ch coax.. and this friday or saturday, i'm going to get either a cx2 or cx3 at the local hobby shop and possibly the 120sr too.. Looking to buy 2 helis that day and maybe a part or two for the conversion on the 9104... I can't wait to get them home and in the air....!!!

I know the blade 120sr is kind of a smaller heli... how does it do in a slight breeze? will it handle any wind at all?

Yeah it handles wind pretty well, especially once you're good enough to switch to the "advanced swashplate setting", which gives you maximum cyclic authority.

I've got the CX3 and love it, the scale body looks great and you can peel off the POLICE sticker if you want (can't have a copper chopper flying around the "crops" Laughing).

Getting both is a good idea because you can get one of them BNF and save a little money. I recommend getting the CX3 as the RTF and the 120 SR as the BNF since the CX3 comes with a 5-channel transmitter instead of 4.

Ideally you could get a DX6i and get both helis BNF, but I realize money doesn't grow on trees. On the other hand you're probably going to get one eventually anyway. Wink

Good move mjg44mjg.

I am interested in E-flite Blade Helis as I have heard from Nick.
But the E-flite Blade Helis are not available in any LHS here.
Very few were imported so no spare parts well support.
