Post subject: Double Horse tail rotor gear |
|
|
Double Horse 9104 and 9060 use the same gear in the tail rotor assembly. For all I know, all DH models that use that drive system do. I recently lost tail control of the 9104 that at first thought was the control board. The copter kept spinning in air. I found that the teeth on the tail rotor gear was ground off and did not spin fast enough to maintain control. The rotor did spin, but under load it obviously did not have the torque. No doubt when the copter made a few uncontrolled landings and the tail rotor jammed, the gear on the motor kept turning. I could not locate just the gear, a simple item that is probably <$1. You have to buy the taiol boom just to get the gear. No problem as I now have a spare motor.
I did in the meantime come up with a temp. fix. I slipped a small diameter fuel tube over the motor gear. On a small lathe, rounded the rest of the teeth off the gear and turned the diameter down just the size needed to cause enough friction between the motor gear and the now smoothed face gear to turn the rotor. It has worked for many flights and is still that way. I will wait for it to see how long it will take to fail before I change the gear. It is quiter too.
Any body have some contact with the DH company and see if replacement gears are available? ( Hello Platinum) May have to buy in quantity? _________________ KCF |

Hi magyarbacsi,
I also found the tail set not only the gear so far!
Like you said we need only the gear.
You did good temporary repair.
My 9104 the tail motor failed first not the gear. Yet, it's going to be someday. So I keep finding too.
Thanks for the info.

Hey Platinum, just a quick check on that tail mod pic, which Walkera model of tail unit have you used and does it fly well now ? Looks like a MUCH stronger tail unit.
I bought an Esky Honey Bee CP3 motor unit but it's too damned big to fit into the motor housing and the tail unit from the CP3 is too thin to fit to the tail boom of the DH9104.
ALL help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Did you have success in the change? I'm tired to buy the tail only because the motor is not good, now I can't fly because the DH9104 started spinning again.... |

I ended up giving up on the DH and went and bought a Belt CP V2 which I'm now loving getting to grips with and hovering more and higher outside. I tried changing the tail unit over but the CP3 unit I couldn't get to fit at all in the end. Sorry. I hope you can sort out your spinning issues soon too. _________________ Calineil
