I'm confused; a CX3 doesn't use 6 channels?

that's what I would like to for now. Later I'm going to use for a servo on a pan and tilt unit.

The HP6DSM is a quirky transmitter, designed specifically for either the CP Pro or the SR. I don't have any personal experience with it although I do have an LP5DSM.

Have you tried messing with the dip switches? I found this which should help:

As Nick said the HP6DSM is designed to work with the Blade SR c/p and is not much good for other helicopters. It has a lot of expo built in which cannot be altered apart from using the hi/lo switch. The knob on the left is to alter the throttle curve in idle up mode and the knob on the right is the gyro gain.
