Post subject: ESky Big Lama Mods |
|
|
Hi from New Zealand. Been awhile since I posted here. While working in WA Australia for 2 months recently, i picked up a Big Lama from Perth Hobby Centre to stop having withdrawal symptoms being separated from my other helis. Now back home I've made some mods. I reinforced the plastic tubing that acts as buffer between the fuselage and the engine mounts because they split very easily. Replaced the stock landing gear with a spare set from my ESky Belt CP V2. I also made 2 battery holders, one with the battery moved forward for flying out side to allow for any wind, and one for indoor flying with the battery positioned over the original position using velcro dots. I did the latter so i could fly with more precision indoors around a obstacle course. As I banged up my original set of blades I found these alloy blades on Trademe for NZ$20. I am going to add heat sinks to the motors to extend their life for a little long just so i can budge for a pair of brushless motors. What I am interested in doing is upgrading the fuselage to another more realistic heli. Has anyone suggestions

E-Flite has a huey body that just fits the Big Lama. Cost around $ 50.00 US.
Rather than spend allot of money on Brushless motors why don't you concider ball bearing motors. They are much cheaper and you will not have to change the ESC's for brushless motors. Cost is about 1/3 and the performance and longer life of the bearing motors is well worth it.

I agree with pjdog (Jack) those ball bearing motors are just great, AND they're a straight replacement for the stock ones - just plug 'um in and go.
Brushless needs far more cash for precious little gain. I use these ball bearing motors and see no reason for the added expense (and complication) of brushless ones.

Hi Paul,
Just click on either mine or Jacks' link, they both point to the same supplier, (or just click here). Price quoted is for both the 'A' & 'B' motors, unlike others who sell them singley for almost the same price.
