Well after 3 months away .. I finally got home and looked at my 450.
Took her down from the ceiling ( I have light lines suspending my models from ) .... looked her over and thought ... why not. Tx NiMh and Lipos were fine ... so out we went ......
Awful ...... I mean it was all over the place ... Now I didn't know if it was the pint I'd had earlier or just plain rusty on the sticks.
Ended up with tail blade, main shaft, flybar to replace.
So I thought ... put it aside .. think about it.
Next day went back and thought ...... let's check her out with vernier, pitch gauge, calipers etc. End result - I ripped out entire head set and fitted my spare. Set swash level ... mid stick Idle up as near zero on both blades as I could get ... then decided to track her in ...
I couldn't believe it ......... no adjustment necessary ... blades tracked in fine .....
So my next test ( this is my OWN ... ) I strapped her to my B&D workmate and ran up the rotors to lift off speed ...... beautiful ...
Hung her up for suitable day ........
This morning went outside and immediately into hover ........ used up a battery pack ... I couldn't believe the difference.
I've now checked out the old head to my new spare ...... the old is really only useful for bits and pieces ... the play in the head meant I coudn't get reliable tracking of blades ... I suppose all those crashes took their toll ....
I'm back with a vengeance !! _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !

I seem to have said this before somewhere solentlife. (Not everyone agrees but that's life!)
If the head is correctly set up and the blades are true then you should have perfect tracking. If you don't then it shows that something is out or slack somewhere. Find out where and you will have it right, compensate by upsetting the blade pitch (tracking adjustment) and it will never fly quite as well as it should.
Think about it, you have accurately set zero pitch at mid-stick, because it should be - and now you have to change the pitch by (say) 1º. What is mid-stick zero like now? What will happen when you go inverted?
Congratulations on a good setup there.

Dirty old man that I am, it took me a few seconds to realize you meant your Black & Decker "Workmate" worktable.

Took her out later that evening with others flying at Airport .. yes we get to use the runway.
Windy but manageable .......... Same .. up she went magic. So I got a little too confident and on second battery pack ... she bit me back !! But only damage was broken skid bracket ... and scuffed blades.
Me ? Very happy chap !! _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !
