Post subject: Fixing broken Trainer gear |
|
|
Ok, I found a quick and easy fix for broken training gear. These little helpers work great but are not to strong. I ran into the problem of the plastic pieces that hold it all together crappy and weak I've using super glue with cable ties to keep it in one piece. Well finally the center plastic piece shattered While glueing the piece back it struck me No not the ping pong ball but a good fix it tip!!
The best way and strong way was easy!!
1: Cut out two small circles from a old plastic top.
2: Using a hot glue gun I glued the two plastic circles to the top and bottom of the center plastic holder.
3: Now fill in the area between the two plastic pieces that you just glued on. this will create a solid and strong center connection

Thank you .....I also found extra ping pong ball at the 99cent store. Oh they are velcro tie straps, the plastic ones seem to break plus it adds a little cushion on not so soft landings |

The plastic star wheels for centre are useless and I went through my two in one day !!
So I came up with my own idea .....
Lay 2 booms alongside each other with about a 1" overlap in middle ... Now electrical tape them together tightly, second taking two short tie-wraps - fix them with those.....
Do it for other two booms and you end up with :
Note the extra tie wraps loose on the booms .... these slide over skids to hold gear in place ...
No need to connect both together - they cross in middle fine AND bend upward ...
The advantage with this - the booms are actually not stressed to meet skid legs, they still flex down, the tie-wraps slide on / off easily to remove gear from heli .... the centre joint still flex's a touch ......
The photos are after weeks of use ... only bit that sometimes needs replacement - the tie-wraps holding to skids as in the cold they are brittle. _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !
