I am a newbie heli owner, bought a used Blade CX2 (2005 model), and fried the 4 in 1 controller (EFLH 1025) in some tall weeds on my third flight. I am shopping for a new CX2 with over current protection because I have the heli bug! I read an article addressing replacing the IRF7313 HEXFET Power MOSFET device, and may look into this avenue, however I am looking for advise on replacing the 4 in 1 with separate parts, so if I fry the ECS again, replacement cost is $6 instead of $50. Has anyone done this before? My CX2 radio is a FM 72 Mhz, and I find receivers made by E Sky for the Honey Bee, as well as gyros, and ESC's. What are pro's and cons to following this path? Any advise is welcome.

I think your best bet is to contact Horizon hobby. The are Blade distributors. Besides there tech. department is super good.

You said that your on 72 mhz. That is the old system radio and I hope you can find parts for it. Horizon hobby should be able to help. Most all radios now are on 2.4 ghz.

You may find that it's cheaper just to get a new CX2 with the 2.4 radio system. Use your old helicopter for spare parts.

Good Luck. Hope you find what you need.

Jack

Thanks PJDog, I saw one article where someone added fuses to motors, hate to buy new control module and fry again, need to try something. BTW, bidding on new CX2, it'll become the trainer, then I'll let some newbie fly it and return to old CX2 with experience under the belt

The simple way to protect your electrics on a micro heli is to cut the throttle to zero if crashing is likely, or use throttle hold if you have it on the tx. If the the rotors cant turn but the throttle is still open that is what causes the damage.

Experience will teach me that, should have stayed indoors and hovered as I did on the previous flights. The new CX2 with built in overload protection is the better way to go for a novice, however, modifying old CX2 seems to be a must!

You can always add a fuse to the plus side of the motor power supply. I did that on my first helicopter. A Exceed Falcon 40 v2. It worked very well. If you crash with the power on the fuse pops leaving the 3-in-1 safe from damage.

Yeah, I would just get a new 3-in-1, getting it all separately is making a co-axial unnecessarily complicated. And it would probably be heavier as well.

As mentioned always drop the throttle or hit Throttle Hold as soon as you get into trouble and you shouldn't have any problems. Jack's idea of a fuse sounds very intriguing as well.

And yeah, you need to go 2.4gHz as soon as is financially possible, ideally with a DX6i.
