On a related note, I heard Chinese clones of the Mikado V-bar FBL system are coming out this year. People are excited because the V-bar is generally accepted as the best, but it's so damn expensive.

I think the difference between a clone, which copies the technology but not the brand name, and a counterfeit, which basically just steals the name and generally uses inferior technology, is an important distinction.

Well said Nick.

Spektrum had a problem with receivers coming from China that had there cover on them. They looked like Spektrum receivers.

Later that clone company changed the cover so now you know they are clones. They work well. I have several but at least I knew I was buying a clone for 20 % of the original cost.

I remember Horizon Hobby was real upset. I wonder if China just does not realize that it's cheating?

The box and receiver pictured don't look right to me, but they might just be old.

I wouldn't risk it though, especially because a definite legit DX6i direct from Horizon is only 30 bucks more than that.

Looks just like my box and radio. Got my late DX6I at the LHS. Paid $ 149.00 US. My LHS only deals with Horizon hobby so ME thinks it's the real thing.

I can't say about the box, I didn't get one, but the radio looks identical to mine.

Tom.

China doesn't hold to most of the international copyright laws. As my wife and I dabble in many various hobbies, we see this all the time in things related to small electronics, airsoft components, ball-jointed doll castings, etc. The problem is weeding out the good from the bad.

In airsoft, chinese brands like KG and cyma copied heavily from their japanese counterparts, sometimes downright to the final screws and bolts. Sadly, quality was lacking in most regards. But as time went by the chinese companies have improved the quality, making their rifles a real bargain. A friend of mine bought the japanese brand tokyo mauri m-14 rifle, I got the KG chinese clone. After 1 game, his was needing rebuild. After countless games and mud, mine still runs fine and is in second-hand generation to a friend of mine since I don't play any more. I heard my friend had rebuilt his tokyo-mauri 3 times in one year. This is a rare case where china got it right, and better, the first time.

In the doll world, the dolls are made of resin. If mixed poorly the resin emits noxious gas it's entire life. So chinese dolls are really risky to buy.

I would err on the side of caution for the first release of any cloned electronics coming from china. While they may prove themselves worthwhile investments in the long run, it sucks to be the guy to discover you bought a lemon electronic.

Goodluckbuy and Goodlucksell are the two names this guy sells under ... and I advise stay away from him ...

I bought my RTF 450 from him and the model etc. is good ... I had small problem with radio where LCD screen had dead area ... top right corner. It just made reading the screen a careful exercise. But radio itself works excellently.
I contacted him to see about replacement ... he said send back AT MY COST. I would then have to pay Shipping BACK TO ME ... I replied that shipping costs back to him exceeded price to buy a new one ! His reply ? So buy another one !! Of course he is the seller of the radio as well.
Paypal dispute opened ... he ignored everyone ... paypal default time was up ... and I was left out in the cold.

OK .... lets correct something .... China DOES have Copyright laws ... but they are very weak and designed to not interfere with their economic development. If they were to stiffen up the laws ... actually enforce them ... chinese production and growth would be hit ... seriously ... its a very wide field they are into.
Having beenn in Tianjin - China's major industrial port ... you cannot believe the amount of shipping traffic ! It even makes Singapore pale ...

I have 2 Air-rifles ... a Chinese no-name item and a Baikal Russian - both .177 calibre.

The Chinese job was less than $40 and is still as accurate / powerful today as it was 8 yrs ago when i bought it. It near enough sits on the max 12lb power band.
The Russian Baikal is good also but over 2x the price. With estimated 10lb power

In a straight shoot out with two of us swapping rifles so equal shots with both ... the Chinese won hands down. Both have same scopes etc. and were zeroed in each change-over to that person.
The Chinese job has a polished wood stock and makes it heavy with side cocking lever

... the Baikal has a composite material stock and lighter with standard break barrel.

Together ...

I realise not in same league as previous post ... over here in latvia guns are a seriously restricted item ...

Airsoft is just larger size plastic or resin BB's, so not much different. Usually airsoft is designed to look more realistic though.

I would love to see an american company take to the electric r/c heli field and do us over on this side of the pond proud. Sadly, most jobs such as that no longer exist in my country unless its small private companies, and those are getting few and far between.

OK ... FYI - I have a BB version of a Magnum !

Manufacturing industry of developed world (that's a relative term as well !! ) has suffered all over with India, China, Mexico, and now the up and coming Vietnam with the cheap labour costs, lack of control over Copyright etc. USA is only a part of the whole ... Europe and Japan have seen great changes ... UK seeing shut-down of shipyards, steel production etc.

As China develops, labour costs go up ... they will be in same boat when they see their industry contract with opposition from cheaper competitors. Don't forget that a lot of this has western companies support as they have lower production costs and greater profits ...
