Thanks for this article. I have been searching all over for more info w.r.t. the inner workings of a gyro. This article helped a lot. I still have 2 questions:
1) Under the heading, "Can I use rudder trim", Michael says, "Next with the gyro in heading hold mode adjust the sub-trim so the helicopter does not rotate. Normally this should be zero but due to small differences in the radios as well as some gyros you may find you have to adjust the sub-trim".
Question: Will this subtrim value still be active w.r.t. the gyro rotate correction at next switch-on of the Heli/RX
2) I have read in another article that some gyros, "Sometimes (quite often) if you turn on in HH mode or just switch to HH mode, the servo will just start moving all on its own in one direction and keep going till it hits the end of it's travel".
Why is this? On slow spin-up, the gyro still moves to the end although it seems that when hovering, this "moving to the end" stops, and HH takes over. This situation requires a be "ready with the rudder" during lift-off.
Question: What is your views on this situation, What makes the gyro take over HH command
In my case it's a Detrum GY48V gyro. |
