Post subject: Helicopter Training Gear :: How to Build Your Own |
|
|
Admin Note: This guide to building your own training gear was first a reply to another post in the show case section but I think it warrants it's very own thread.
Get your 4 carbon rods and overlap pairs by about 1 - 1.5". Bind with electrical tape and the tie wrap over as here ....
The rods do not need anymore in the centre as they will flex sufficiently.
To fix to the skids - I use tie-wraps loosely applied to the rods that slip over the skid ends ...
Here are the rods fitted to my 450 :
Only a casual check on centreing is needed at times ...
Cheap - effective - simple. _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !

Interesting project -- but where do you find these carbon rods? (I grew up in the oil field and would be tempted to try welding rod if not for the weight!) _________________ "It goes one hundred miles per hour." |

Best way ? buy them on Ebay !! Even buy a full training set of ebay for less than $10 incl. delivery ... and then when the centre stars give out ... convert simply to my idea ! _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !

I like the hoola hoop better, even cheaper and it just slides on the ground when you get too close, literally impossible to flip over or hit the blades on the ground. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------
