Hi,
I am fairly new to the rc heli world, I recently got my hands on a Walkera Hiko 400 and am just wondering if anyone knows of any good websites that show you how to change parts in it ect. I am wanting to replace the main gear and am unsure how to do it.
Thanks for your help |

Hey Jules,
It might not be the same, but try it, look under the main gear and see if there is a bolt going thru it and the mainshaft with a nut on it, if there is take the screw out, then go to the top of your heli and see if there is a locking ring on the mainshaft under the Swashplate, should be one sitting just on top of the heli, between the swash and the heli body, if there is loosen the set screw in it and then disconnect the linkage rods from the balls on the swashplate, you then should be able to pull the head assembly and the main shaft right out from the top. Then you can pull the gears out from the side, if it is too hard to pull out u will have to loosen the motor a bit so the teeth can get out from the teeth on the pinion gear that is on the motor shaft. It is real easy, not as hard as I probably make it sound, and it all goes back in just opposite of how you took it out. If it is like I say and u have any trouble, write back and I will help ya thru it. _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------

Hiya Jules,
no problem , glad I could help out, good to be able to help someone finally, I can't really help ppl to fly yet ...but, I am gettin' pretty dang good at repairs and building a heli, lol
Repair and maintenance on your heli...hmmm
here are some sites that might help:
http://www.rchelicopterfun.com/how-to-fly-rc-helicopters.html
http://www.cuttingedgecnc.com/rcstartingout.htm
http://helihell.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=14
http://www.fixya.com/support/walkera/toys < this might be good for ya.
even if some heli repair does not match the type of heli you have, remember the application is the same, just like your main gears, my heli is completetly different than yours but...the application was the same, some helis have the servos on top of the heli, right under and around the mainshft, but...the application will still be the same!! some have the anti rotation bar in front of the mainshaft some in back, still, how you repair or adjust it will still be the same. Don't let the heli intimidate you. If you fly, you have to know how to repair it. Have a table or bench, something with a kinda large flat surface you can work on the heli, permantly if you can, devoted to your work on the heli, pieces get lost easily and quickly if you have to move them around, use a towel under your heli, when tiny lil' screws or washers, or nuts fall, the towel will capture them 99% of the time, instead of bouncing off the bare wood or whatever the top is made of, you don't want to lose some pieces, like the little washers and bearings from inside the blade grips!!!
in one of the sites above, there is a list of tools you will need, and you will need them!! go to youtube also, and type in the kind of repair you are lookin' for , chances are it will be there, if not exactly probably close enuff to help ya out, even if it is the wrong heli, the type of repair will probably be the same. Be sure to get plenty of replacement parts so you don't have to wait for 'em, a list of parts that will break most of the time:
Boom, flybar, mainshaft, feathering(spindle) shaft, tail rotor shaft, main blades, landing gear, lol, actually everything will break at one time or another, you probably will be lucky enough to not have to get another frame, but if you can, get those parts I mentioned for sure!! Then get extra parts, like another head and tail assembly, cuz parts in the head will break sometime. order another package of screws and washers and nuts also. Well, this is a heckuva wall of text, this will be enough now to get ya started. Remember we are here to help, and will do what we can, most ppl here on this Forum know a million times more than I do, so come here when you have trouble. no, not me!
Flight school: http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html
If you follow the instructions in here ,you are almost guaranteed not to crash, and will be flying in no time, but..you have to follow them precisely! _________________ ----------------------------------------------------------
