Hobbyking has an HK 450 clone kit (T-Rex compatible)for about $30.

It needs motor, esc, gyro, servos, etc..

Has any one got the kit and if so, could you give a list by part no. that is required to complete the bird? I have Futaba radio and receiver, 2.4 that is either plane or heli compatible.
I read somwhere that the whole thing, kit and parts, can be had from hobbyking for a little over $100.

Here is what I went with on my HK 450 (and other 450) builds.

HobbyWing Platinum 40 amp ESC
Emax ES 08MD Digital, metal gear servos on cyclic
Emax ES9257 Digital, metal gear servos on rudder
HobbyMate HB 2835 3800kv motor
Blue lipos 2200/25c
Walkera 2801 pro Rx/Tx
Assan/HobbyKing GA250 gyro

Well under $100.00 (U.S.) w/o the batteries!

Embarassed I just re-read the original post, and my setup as above is right at $100.00 PLUS the kit.

For starting out - I reckon go for the version with all fitted .... ready to go.... all you need is to add your radio.
Why introduce further hardship of building and setting up - it's hard enough learning to fly a 450 !

BUT - before flying it - make sure all screws into metal are BLUE loctited and tight. Make sure all screws into plastic are tight. Make sure of pitch range and switch to NORMAL mode not Idle Up .....

Go for it !!

I have a RTF 450 and it's my main machine and still with the radio that came with it.
I also have a spare 450 that was a kit and that is still waiting to be sorted ... (I'm in process of that now and believe me - I cannot better the RTF pricing ... my kit is working out more expensive even with careful ebay buying etc.).

For setting up radio and links .... then MikeysRC or FinlessBob ... on Youtube and their own online tutorial sites.

Many people suggest RADD's course for flying ....... sorry but I never got on with that ...

Oh - nearly forgot ......... I advise do not buy the plastic version which is the cheapest. Go for the Carbon Fibre frame and metal head / tail version ...... Loads of parts on ebay etc. for the CF / Metal version ... as Trex SE V2 ...
