Post subject: I made a really cool power supply for cheap.. |

I just thought I'd share something I recently learned about. I made a power supply for under 20 bucks using a server power supply, a set of banana jacks and a micro switch. It produces 12V and 48amps. I did a test run with my charger and ran it up to 10amps and charged a 3S 2650mah battery that was down 80%. It did a full charge in under 13 minutes. Pretty sweet.. And with the parallel board I can charge 6 packs in under 30 minutes.

Stuff... Stuff that makes power.. Not sure what you mean, it's just a computer power supply You can get them on ebay for 11 bucks.
A 40 amp power supply from Amain hobbies is over 120 bucks. I made a 48amp for less then 20 dollars. _________________ Trex 450V1...Trex 600Nitro Flybarless, Outrage Velocity 50 flybarless. Frenzy V2 50.

so you go by amps and not wattage cuz i was under impression you go by the wattage of output for power supply??? _________________ eagle 2 trainer nitro

You welcome, it works really good. That setup works better then my hyperion 606i and way faster too. I made a set for my friend and he is running them in parallel to power his 610 Duo charger.
Running them in series would be better, but neither of our chargers can handle 24V input. I'll get one later maybe.. _________________ Trex 450V1...Trex 600Nitro Flybarless, Outrage Velocity 50 flybarless. Frenzy V2 50.

Doesn't matter because Watts are Volts x Amps .......... so as long as Volts are steady and known ... and you get Amps - you can work out the Watts.
The only time Watts is preferred is when looking at required input to provide the 12V at xx amps ......... ie
You want 12V and 100A max output ...... this is 1200 Watts.
240V input needs to be capable of 1200 / 240 = 5amps
Allow 10% or more for losses and input will be ~6A on 240V to provide sufficient for a 100A output.
(I used a high figure to get maths easier !)
For low ampage provision - you can use model railway power supplies where many even have pots that you can control voltage down to zero. _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !
