First is set up, ive seen where they say to unplug motor flip idle up switch center stick, with throttle gain switch set at lowest postion and adjust pitch, my book says to have the gain at midway and adjust pitch not sure which is right, seems like one set up is geared toward 3D flying, just starting out could use the best set up for learning to fly this heli. also what does the two position switch for gyro do on the esky transmitter! _________________ PAT |

Hi Upsidedown and welcome,
Your "Idle Up" switch is indeed the 3D setting when Idle Up is on.

This sounds to me like in this case you should be checking the max negative pitch in Idle Up (3D) mode using a pitch gauge.
As you are starting out you will not want to use 3D yet, but if the pitch does not correspond to the Tx output then your "Normal" (i.e. Idle Up off, non-3D, cruising about and hover) settings will not be correct either.
Check your manual for the recommended max positive & negative pitches and check for them in Idle Up, using your pitch gauge, along with the centre Throttle stick zero pitch. You may have to check the Tx settings to ensure that you are getting full servo travel when doing this. Take time over this, it is very important to get it right. If in doubt ask for more advice giving as full an account of the problem as possible.
Your gyro switch will (depending on settings) either switch between "Head Lock" & "Rate" settings or give you 2 different settings for "Head Lock". (Lock is often called "Hold" means the same thing really.) _________________ Keep Smiling |

In the idle up setting with the gain knob in the middle the pitch is 0 then-7 with stick all the way down and+7 all the way up. Now in the none idle up mode the pitch is 0 with the stick down and +7 with it all the way up, what confuses me is with the gain knob I can put the heli in neative pitch and hold the heli on the ground at much higher rpm or go positive and make it lift sooner less stick travel, sorry if iam alittle off on my terms, just trying to get a handle on this!!!!! _________________ PAT |

Sorry Pat, but I've never met this "Gain Knob" so I can't help there.
Your "Idle Up" mode sounds good to me.
However, in the "Idle Up" off ("Normal") mode your pitch curve should be something like negative 2.5deg low stick to 0.0deg at mid stick to +7.0deg at full stick. If you have a 5 point pitch curve on your Tx it will look something like this. (Only an example but would work.)
pos Low: -2.5; pos 2: -1.2; pos 3: 0.0; pos 4: +3.5; pos high: +7.0
