Post subject: Lipo batteries in T-34 |
|
|
Hi, guys,
I get several minutes flying, then over a couple of minutes, power reduces dramatically, but I can still move close to the ground and hover. After another couple of minutes, the power instantly cuts - not a slow wind down.
Is this a feature to prevent the batteries dropping their voltage too much? I read something like it somewhere, but can't relocate it.

As soon as you lose power you must land and unplug your battery. To fly after that point for another couple of minutes is a quick way to wreck the battery. If you run a lipo too low it will not recharge. Its better for the battery if you use a timer so you can land safely before the low voltage protection kicks in. If the battery runs out when you are 30 feet up you also run the risk of wrecking your heli. |

Many thanks for that response. I did my usual and gave it another minute at ground level. When I checked the voltage before recharging it was 6.6v. But from now I'll start timing.
I don't know if that's the norm, but that's about 75% usage (voltage after charging was 8.8v).

If you want more flying time its better to just get more batteries. Changing batteries also gives the motors a chance to rest between flights. I have two 120sr helicopters which i have for indoor practice when the weather is bad and i fly them alternately to save overworking the motors. These 120sr models do a bit over 6 minutes to Lvc so the timer on my DX6i is set to 5 minutes per flight. I seem to remember someone on the forum saying use a maximum 80% but i might be wrong on that.

Thanks again. I'm new to this - can you recommend a UK source (or rather a reliable sourse) for spares, batteries etc?

Bonjour Matelot,
I find that the best source for batteries (and many other things) is from the Far East. I use Hobby King for many of my spares. They do have a German warehouse which will avoid customs duty on large (more than $50 USD) items but, of course they cost more, but not customs duty to us more.
