Post subject: Metal Head "slack" ? |
|
|
This is a question rather than a statement and is based on observation of various 450 Trex / Clone heads ....
No matter what I do ... I end up with slight slack in the head ... ie if you take blade holders in hand you can turn each one slightly ... possibly 1/2 degree pitch either way.
So the question is ............. who else finds this and if so has anyone found a solution to it without buying a complete new head ?
When you look at the head unit - it appears to be a sum of all the tiny movements in all links through the system. The one area I could remove was worn swashplate ... _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !

I have replaced Gold also Red clone 450 heads on my Storm 450,
And found there are two possibilities for play,
The rubber grommets that hold the feathering shaft, are a little softer so I tend to use the Storms grommets,
Also the screws bottom out on the clone, giving play if you try and pull the blades apart,
Solution use shorter screws.

That could be another reason for flybarless systems becoming more popular. Simpler design and less linkage equals less slack. My t-rex pro has a tiny bit of slack on the all metal head but not as much as the mainly plastic head of the blade 400. To be honest though i dont think my flying skills would spot the difference during flight. |

Hi Trev ... Long time ago I posted that I have a tap and die set ... all feathering shafts - I run a tap down and clean the threads as often they are poorly cut further in ... I found that it wasn't the screw too long ... it was the thread binding inside.
The damper rubber ... point taken and agreed ... but here we are talking about slack in the system ... but further on the damper rubber ... until I decided to change dampers ... I couldn't imagine them wearing out as shaft si not spinning round etc. but when I took out the old - was surprised how worn and edge shredded ... fitting new made a big difference to the feathering shaft. _________________ If you don't crash - you ain't flying !
