Post subject: New but eager :) Starter chopper help plse... |
|
|
Hello all. Have no knowledge yet tho im reading alot and it seems very technical. I want a starter chopper that seems like the real thing (4 or 5 channel from what I read so far). A kit that provides me all that I need to get going would be preferable. I realize the learning curve is large so a sim program would be cool too (point me in the right direction?) Some names like the TREX or BLADE products seem ideal but dont know if this is too much too soon. Outdoor flight is my goal as putting around the house does not appeal to me . Any thoughts , ideas or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks! |

Welcome to the hobby,
I would say, whatever you buy do not consider less than 4 channels. That rules out most of the helicopters produced for the toy market.
The Blade range has some excellent starter helicopters, but make sure that it is suitable for outdoor use. It requires a lot of 'learned skill' to control any heli so be prepared to crash your shiney new model. A good model flying simulater will help with learning stick movements, My personal choice is ClearView, but there are other (more expensive) ones out there.

Yeah jumping straight to something like a Trex or Blade 450 would be quite an undertaking, but it is possible with a sim. Just be prepared to crash and need to repair/replace parts when you do.
For something easier and much more durable, you might look at the Blade 120 SR. For something just as hard as a 450, but much more durable, you might look at the Blade mCPX V2.
As far as sims go, I use RealFlight, but as Tom said ClearView is a great option as well. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Hi everyone,
Welcome to hobby. For starting this hobby …like Nick said look for durable and spare parts available. Using flight simulator for orientation.
During severe 2011/2012 Thailand floods I lost almost my models and couldn’t online during the situation. This answer to Nick said “Unfortunately we haven't seen platinum around the forum for a few months now.”

I use RealFlight with my desktop. Now I also use ClearView with my rather low speed CPU/Graphic Notebook.
Have fun flying.

Yes, welcome back Platinum,
That's a real rough ride you've had there, makes my smash in the jeep seem like a joy-ride. Pic here. I only survived because of the seatbelt and maybe the gods were with me.

Seems a good buy IF you are in the States, otherwise it could be cheaper from another supplier. There in no free shipping for it outside of the U.S.
