Post subject: New Excuse for Crashing - The dog made me do it. |
|
|
Hi Guys,
Put my Pigeon M1 450 into the deck today damage bill Main shaft, Tail boom, Tail Shaft, Tail belt, Blade, canopy and I upgraded Tail servo while I had it apart. I was having a great morning first battery flying out about 60~70 Ft (29 M) turning around and practicing nose in flying back, dog was wandering around not paying any attention, the wife came down to watch and the dog sat with her, she went inside, next thing out of nowhere the dog charged the helicopter a pass to the front and then wheeled away and was making a bee line for the tail rotor, TOTAL PANIC close throttle which throws it into Neg pitch from about a 3 Feet (1M) bang gone in a second, dog was OK though, I didn't talk to him for about an hour.
In reflection my fault for having him out there I know he has a go at the small co-axials inside and I think that funny, even tease him with them but I didn't want him tangled up with a 450.
If it happened again tomorrow I'd do the same thing, but he won't be getting out when I'm flying tomorrow.
That's my Excuse of the Week for crashing, anybody got a better one?

a wise move admiral,
if the dog had managed to grab the tail rotor it could have been messy. |

Now why didn't I ever think of that one...? "the dog made me crash!" Drat, never thought of that one, but..I will save it for later, I am sure I will need to come up with a good one before the day is out.
Glad the dog is ok, sad that your heli is hurt Prolly cheaper to fix the heli than a vet/surgeon's bill though.
So, you are doing nose-in returns..nice!!!
I was just starting that manouver that the last time I flew a 450, had done it like 3 times,... now, i have to learn to fly all over again it feels like, sigh...
Anyhoo, Gratz on your skills Admiral!!!! |

Don't know which I hate more, dogs or tail motors. Wouldn't have either around me, far too much trouble.

Sorry about the crash, but at least the pooch was OK. A few squirrels in my yard I wouldn't mind one bit about taking out with a heli |

Like the heli Admiral, like working dogs, just don't like pet ones. They like me, but I don't like them - can't help it, some people don't like snakes but I've got a beautiful 2M wild one in the garden here, call it Sid and does he love the odd tree rat. He's my favourite live thing here - apart from the wife. ( )
He will not go near a heli, but the dragon flies love chasing the little helis. I like them, they're beautifully coloured and they eat mosquitoes.

Hi Thombo,
Not a great fan of snakes, living in a country where most of them can kill you, but love working dogs, they are not much use to my in the IT industry though, my little fellow is good on mice, never had a rat for him to take on, but he gives the possums curry around here, hope he never corners one they have pretty nasty claws.
I still haven't heard an other great Helicopter crashing excuses though. |

Dogs ... rats ....
My house is in centre of 3.5 acres and we have a large barn as well ... when wife had a horse - we had rats all over the barn .. stealing the horse feed etc.
Well ... we have 3 cats ... 3 big dogs .... (plus 2 rabbits but they don't figure in this story ! ).
Wife would always take the dogs with her when feeding / mucking out the horse. The straw and hay was stored in the barn and rats used to hide in it ...
Dogs had a system ...... one at one end of the straw stand ... another at other end ... standing stock still .... not a sound. 3rd dog would attack the middle of the straw stand ... rat would run out BHAM ... one of the end dogs would have it .. snap head side to side ... drop dead rat on floor.
It was an amazing show of pure team work ... nothing taught ... they just did it. Not only that but they would take it in turns to be the middle attacking dog ...
The other solution we had was called a Baikal .177 .......... air-rifle with telescopic sight ..... lightweight composite stock ... (next to my Chinese job)
I'd sit on my lawn tractor with it set-up and zeroed in ... PHUT ... got yer ! PHUT .. another !
Here's my other .177 .... powerful Chines job but too heavy for sitting around waiting :
The cats .... all three are masters at mice ... and one of them Tom is game for rats as well ....

Your right there Solentlife,
I've got a Spanish hunting air rifle, just supersonic muzzle velocity . I'm not allowed fire arms, (not being a real Portugese,) or even my preferred weapon a hunting bow but this air rifle is fantastic. No telescopic sights but I can hit a rat at 30M every time. Great sport, my younger daughter (just turned 50 ) keeps pet rats so I don't tell her, but Sid and I do our best to keep them down. Sid is poisonous of course, but like all snakes here, he is 'Back Fanged' so as long as he can't get any part of you into his throat you're safe I don't think he likes me too much, just tolerates me in 'his' garden.
Your dogs are just wolves doing what wolves do, good that you can let them do that. We all need to let our natures flow at times. Give the cats a 'narrowed eyed' hello from me will you?
