Post subject: Newbie saying Hello from Lincoln (UK) & in need of help! |

Hi All,
Martin here in the UK, near Lincoln to be more precise. Any other members nearby?
Just bought a T34 to start me off because it said it was suitable for a beginner, but I'm certainly not finding it easy so far.
I've read that it's a good idea to start by learning 'on the ground' and then trying a hover. However as soon as it starts to leave the ground it wants to shoot off backwards, (without any backwards input), not everytime but frequently.
Because of this I've not managed a low level hover yet so any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. I should add that because of the cold weather, currently -3 here, I've not actually been outdoors with it yet but practicing in the lounge. I figured there would be enough space to practice a hover and on the ground control. _________________ Many thanks,
Mart. |

Hi MartF and welcome,
My last RAF station was Cranwell, not far from you, your heli has a story of backward flight, seems a common fault with it. Problem is either the CG to far back or the tail rotor not producing enough power.
Try checking the balance of the heli. It should hang from the flybar with the mainshaft absolutely vertical. If not then either move the battery (best) or add weight to the nose (not so good).
Welcome again to the forum Mart,
Tom. _________________ Keep Smiling |

Thanks for that Tom, I'll check the balance and if need be move the battery forward a tad and try it again. _________________ Many thanks,

My T-34 does that sometimes as well, particularly if taking off slowly. I'm sure it's the downwash. If tilted slightly to the rear, it'll push off against the downwash and some ground-effect will send it astern.
I've learned not to mess about and get the blighter off the deck quick: plenty of space will give you time to sort your inputs...
Have fun!

Hello, thanks for your input, I think you are perhaps right about the downwash.
The problem is I have not been able to fly it outside because of the wet weather and indoors things seem to happen to fast!
Are you able to get yours to hover OK, I've been trying (indoors) but have not been successful, again due to the backwash or ground effect!
Bring on some better weather! _________________ Many thanks,
