Post subject: Questions regarding 120 SR after maiden flight |
|
|
I'm a newbie to this hobby and have some questions after the maiden flight of my 120 SR.
1) On the stock txmitter, what does pushing-in on the left joystick do? I know pushing-in on the right joystick puts in a slower/easier mode, but what does pushing the left joystick do (I'm not talking about up/down. I'm talking about pushing-in)?
2) I found a tiny glass fuse in my garage while flying my copter (after several mishaps). I looked at the exploded drawings/parts lists and found nothing of the sort. I also took the canopy off and inspected. I found no place for this tiny fuse. Furthermore, I noticed no difference in flying. Was this tiny fuse from my copter or from something else? If from the helicopter, where does it go?
3) I'm confused about the throttle trim. What is the significance of trimming the throttle, knowing it is variable?
4) I was flying in my garage with door down so I didn't have a lot of room. However, I noticed that after moving forward or backward (elevator), letting go of the joystick resulted in a pendulum effect. By the same token, after moving left or right (aileron), letting go of the joystick often resulted in a circular motion (I think referred to as "toilet bowl effect"). Is this common? I've only flown a toy coax and when you let go of a joystick, the copter pretty much halts the direction that the joystick was moving it. |

1) You hold in the left stick while turning the transmitter on in order to bind it to a different heli.
2) It didn't come from the heli.
3) As far as I know, throttle trim is never needed for electric helis. It's used for setting the idle on nitro helis.
4) The pendulum effect you're describing is a characteristic inherent to 45° flybars. Without that effect the heli would not self-stabilize itself when you let go of the right stick. It's just not as noticeable on your co-axial because it isn't fast enough to get a "swing" going.
It's only considered toilet-bowl effect if it's flying around in circles on its own with your thumb off the right stick. Usually the circles get wider the longer you let it go as well. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Excellent info... thanks.
One other question. Should I set the trim one time and be done with it or should I adjust continuously? I realize that as the battery loses power, it will affect flight, meaning I either have to make manual adjustments or adjust trim. Also, are trim settings tied to the txmitter or copter? In other words, should I expect to adjust trim every time I replace the battery in the copter or just every time I replace batteries in the txmitter? |

I tend to adjust rudder trim during flight, it becomes quite easy with practice. I allways reset the rudder to centre before plugging in for the next flight. The throttle i leave permanently at centre and the aileron and elevator are left at whatever they are set at. |

I tend to start each flight with trims left set where they were at the end of the last flight. I always try to get any of my helis mechanically balanced via link adjustment before applying any trim. _________________ Next Level 650 Quad Copter, T-Rex 500, 450SEv2 & 250

Thanks.
One other question. I know the gyro calibrates two seconds after you connect the battery (I wish it was more like 4 or 5 seconds). Anyway, there is always a click and the red indicator light is steady red quickly after I connect the battery. Does this indicate that the gyro is calibrated or do I need to wait a few more seconds? |

Yeah that's it, no need to wait any longer. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar
