Post subject: second Heli - what type? |
|
|
Have flown a coax for awhile - I now want a heli I can fly outside. Not a massave move up the ladder but something I can learn next level with - like when we flew the Texan Trainer as second level airplane.
Thanks for help.

I say this so much I should just copy and paste it, but my recommendation would be for the Blade 120 SR.
It's single-rotor, so it handles wind much better and is more agile than a co-axial. But it's also fixed-pitch and uses a 45° flybar just like co-axials, so it maintains a lot of the self-correcting stability co-axials are known for.
Whatever your decision, good luck and welcome to the forum! _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Yes. 120sr is a favourite of mine too. Brilliant little heli. |

Thank you, the 120 looks to be it.
Should I buy a good trans to bind too - or is the one included in the kit box okay?
I don't want to be casting the right fly rod with an inferior line, so to speak. And if a new trans is the ticket, which one?
Again, many thanks for all your help.

Depends how keen you are or how much you want to spend. The stock tx is good enough to get started but myself and quite a few other forum members use the Spectrum DX6i. Its a good match for the 120sr and has memories for ten models which is handy when you want to add to your fleet. Any models you buy would obviously have to be compatible. |

I agree, if you can afford a DX6i absolutely go for it. If you plan on moving up to collective-pitch helis eventually, you're going to need a 6-channel transmitter anyway. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

I have to agree on the Blade 120 SR as a 2nd heli. I started with a co-ax (CX3) and now have a 120. I was able to go right into a nose out hover on the first battery. It flew great right out of the box. I haven't yet upgraded my radio but will in the future. Hopefully to a DX6I. BTW this is a great site. Loads of info for all levels of experience. Thanks. |
