For brushless motors, the (RPM/V) kv (1,000 rpm per volt),

The motor manufactures model number doesn't necessarily equate to the motor kv. See the specs for Scorpion motors:

try this link and scroll down

With smaller dc motors you may need to contact motor manufactures directly to obtain full specifications.

Hi David,

I can assure you that the 180 motors in my "Wee Jock" run at quite a few thousand rpm on a 2 cell lipo (7.8V). No idea of the speed I do not have a tachometer but despite being geared down the blades will give you a nasty cut if you're stupid.

Tom.

Thanks Tom. That's is exactly what I needed, a specific motor for the Blade CX and it appears that the Pro 180 motor fits the bill.

I've searched but haven't yet found any specs other than the weight of the motor.

I'll try Burgess's suggestion and try contacting Xtreme Production for specs on it.

Thank you everyone for your helpful responses.
I think I've gotten enough information to keep me busy for a while. Very Happy

Hi Dave
Scratch building a small heli sounds interesting.

Where you say you're intending to use an ‘alternate to conventional rotor configuration', have you settled a spec for rotor blade foil section? Disk loading and the disk operating rpm?
<snip>

Burgess

Hi Burgess
I've contacted Scorpion Power Systems and requested their help in picking an appropriate motor.

To answer your questions:
Rotor blade foil section: NACA 2424
Disk loading: don't know yet
Disk operating rpm: 6000 RPM

Thanks for your input.

EDIT 12/30/15> It turns out that asking Scorpion Power Systems for help in picking an appropriate motor was a waste of time. Something must have gotten lost in the translation. They replied by suggesting a couple of motors for airplanes, both of which were too heavy and turned at the approximate RPM as my rotor(s) and also replied that they didn't have references for designing a coaxial helicopter.
