I've had a storm 450 for a couple of years. I just bought a bare frame kit and fitted it with parts from the old one. Here's background to my question. The servo mounts in the old one were horizontal in the frame. The mounts on the new one are in a vertical in a circle around the rotor shaft. Also, the swashplate design is different. In the old one the stabilizer was connected to one of the servo linkages. In the new one the stablilizer is not.

Here is my question. What swash plate do I pick from my D7 transmitter? And which servo is the Elevator, aelieron, and...the other one? Would appreciate any help. can't wait to get it back in the air.

Hi Menglund,

Great link from Solentlife there.

Firstly your Swash. You need the 120º, 3 servo setup. Set that first.

Secondly your servos. The vital position is the elevator and that must be at the back. The other two are the aileron/pitch servos and you have to figure that one out for yourself. Start by just conecting them up with one to the Rx aileron channel and the other to either gear or aux1. Most likely gear is correct but it does depend on the Tx setup and I do not know your Tx.

Now power up (motor disconnected) and check the cyclic action. If all is well - great! Probably one or the other servos will react in the opposite manner to the expected. If both, try swapping the leads over on the Rx if only one then you may have to reverse that servo on the Tx. A servo not functioning at all may be plugged into the wrong channel.

Once the cyclic is OK then try the collective. If all servos work together then you're in luck. If not the the malfunctioning servo(s) will have to be reversed in the 'Swash Mix'.

Now you should be ready to set up the head. Don't forget to set both the collective range and the cyclic with your pitch gauge.

Good luck, keep in touch on this one.

Tom.

I believe; two front servos are pitch and aileron, chanels 1,6- does not matter if they are switched. The elevator, in the back is ch2.

Most Rx's follow the pattern of :

Position 1 : Aileron (side servo to swashplate)
Position 2 : Elevator (servo in front of / behind swashplate)
Position 3 : Throttle (ESC)
Position 4 : Rudder (tail servo)
Position 5 : Aux (usually Gyro sense)
Position 6 : Aux (usually other side servo to swashplate)

No g'tee but most do ...

Thanks for the help everyone. Ok, I found out that you basically have to look at backwards becasue that's how it's set up. So, I had to swith pitch and aeliaron. Elevevator controls the rear servo. Then mess around with the txmitter a bit, switch your gyro to reverse and Boooom, you are in flight.

Sadly, after having dialed my helo as perfect as I could make it (hovering like a dream) I took it out to the field at dusk. I could see it perfectly while flying it above the Black trees in the background, but as soon as it descended into that dark zone I lost control. I was able to keep her spinning and rolling, flipping and jerking, from impacting the ground and, to my amazement, was able to pull her up into a hover at about 30 feet. Slowly I backed her toward me. All of a sudden she was diving like a shop duck plunging to earth. Nothing I could do to stop it. SO STUPID TO FLY IN THE DARK OR WITH TOO MUCH WIND. I COULD HAVE SAVED HUNDREDS OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS IF I HAD HAD THE PATIENCE TO NOT FLY WHEN THE CONDITIONS WERE NOT RIGHT. HECK, I DO IT PARAGLIDIDNG ALL THE TIME. ANYHOO, THANKS AGAIN gotta go rebuild. After i order some more parts. Happy Flying

I know the half light situation very well myself as well. I have stopped doing it with the helis now ...

Fixed wing - yes I can as they are distinct shapes and flying in direction. The Heli is not so easy to orientate when background or light is not ideal !
