So. as my learning curve continues, I determine that my power loss to my lower rotor is due to slipping on the shaft. Seems this is common with this copter. Since I have just recieved an assortment of spare parts, including a main shaft, I attempted an R&R but find that the lower bearing pops out of the lower frame and doesn't want to simply slide over the shaft. Do I tap pound or punt at this point? Any links to video's? access to explosives? _________________ Richard E Zollinger |

Howdy Doc:
If the heli was mine I'd put some very fine emery paper to it. Polish the shaft until the bearing will slide on there.
Are you absolutely sure you have the correct replacements parts.
Also most the time when doing repairs we over look replacing the bearings. They are a very busy part when flying our toys. You may wish to conceder new bearings also.
Good luck with the repairs.
By the way Doc? where is Pacifica?

Thanks for your reply. Pacifica is along the coast 20 minutes south of San Francisco. Home of the author, Jack London. Well, I killed the bearing and you may be right about the wrong parts. I bought parts for a syma S107 because it looks like, and I read that, it is the same bird as the yiboo I bought. Guess I'll try another Syma as I like the handling and and I have all these spare parts... _________________ Richard E Zollinger |

Thanks for the information on your location. Seems like everybody lives in California except me.
Jack London is a great author.

Hey, don't get another Syma! I highly recommend a 4-channel heli from Blade/Eflite. They are higher quality and much more controllable.
mCX2 or CX3 if you want a co-axial.
and
mSR or 120 SR if you're ready for a single-rotor fixed pitch. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

I have an s105g and have experienced power loss too; I ran an ohm meter across the motors (as you do) to check the resistance during flight time ( simulated by me sticking the chopper body onto the bench so I had free hands). I experinced a lot of power loss relative to the heat build up in the motor. This was after I ran some plastic friendly lubricant between the shafts to free it up a bit.
Is this the power loss you're talking about during flight? _________________ Nearly broke an ankle getting my helicpter out of a tree; is that commitment?? |
