Hi, everybody, from an ex-pat Englishman living in France - and early retired. I've recently stopped flying light aircraft from a French airfield, and always fancied a model chopper. Well, Santa was listening, and a T-34 came my way!

I have to say what a lovely piece of bomb-proof kit it's turning out to be. The only drawbacks so far are the sharp main rotor leading edges which cut through the rubber and deform, and forward thrust.

In respect of the latter, T-R-E-V posted this:

The tail rotor is a Double Horse SYMA 601, 603, 9093, 9083, 9086 5.75 inches ( 148 mm ) from tip to tip

Are these tail rotors simply variations for different Syma models and all basically fit the T-34? Any real advantage of one over the other? And where's your favourite stockist for obtaining such?

Looking forward to learning a lot about rc - plans already afoot for improving my T-34...

Nice to meet you all.

Cheers

Edit: Just had a reply from rccontrolfreak to say that the 9083 tail rotor is 115mm long and not 148mm. Can anybody clarify what TREV is saying?

Cheers

been looking on e-bay syma 9083 rotor says 148mm. Also looking at a new rotor for my t-34 to help with forward movement. fitting looks the same also.

Thanks for that. Just had another response from the dealer and they've confirmed the dia. of 148mm. They'd measured a 9090 in error.

So now I can get one sent out. Looking forward to doing the mod.

Cheers Very Happy

Thanks. I'll remember that. Seems like the tail rotor mod will make not an inconsiderable difference.

Well, the mod has been done with a Dragonfly rotor. What a difference! All went well for 30 seconds until the power went. Fully charged on the new iCharger 206B, first time of use, and 30 seconds only.

Something has gone mammaries up! Confused

Edit: it's back on the supplied charger @75mA. Changed tx batteries and back to 4.5V. When the stick is pushed forward, the top blades spin up for about one second only, then die. Bottom set remain stationary. Both cogs rotate freely.

Could it be that the battery, although registering full voltage, has had it? Waiting for JST leads to put on new batteries.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

Have you checked the voltage when the flight stops?

The battery could have developed a high internal resistance - it has all the symptoms of it. The voltage will be high until it has to give power, the voltage will drop right off, but come back up with no power drawn. The only cure is replacement.

Tom.

Thanks, tombo. I'm hoping that's all it is. The battery recharges to max in a minute or two.

I've tried looking for the meaning of the red light on the ESC? (is that it) to no avail. It comes on steady, goes off for a second or two, two flashes (twice) then steady flashing.

If I can get my head around the iCharger, I'll try checking internal resistance.

Edit: IR 75 and 73 mO. IR 148mO for the pack. Don't know if that's good, bad or indifferent...

Edit: after some googling, seems like these cells are knackered!

Cheers.
