Was Kinda Checking out the Blade Huey electric helicopter. Now I have only flown the MCX and was looking for the next step. I kind of would like to be able to fly outside but have a decent indoor area. What do you all think ??? _________________ Indiana, USA

Hello,
I had one of these in my hands a few weekends ago when I visited a LHS, did not fly it, my only comment is on the 'shell' which seemed, at least to me, to be really thin. It is very a good representation of the Huey however I wondered if the 'shell' could be easily damaged during a crash.
I left the LHS with a mSR X and have enjoyed learning with it very much, I am considering adding the 120SR to the hangar here as my next purchase. The Huey gunship is based upon the 120SR so if the 'shell' was not as thin skinned as it is then I would be adding it to the hanger here.
Again, just a comment based upon having the Huey in my hand. _________________ Keep Em Flying

Do not get it it. It's not a beginner's heli, but not because it's hard to fly, but because you have to be an expert to get that crappy tail motor to comply.
It's not at all RTF out of the box. To get it to fly halfway decently you have to adjust the ESC mixer and remove the body to plug the gyro gain lead into the receiver to be able to adjust that.
The original Blade SR was terrible platform to start with, I have no clue why they're expounding on it. No CP heli of that size should be using a tail motor, now they've thrown a low-quality scale body on it which only complicates matters.
My dad was a Huey gunner in Vietnam, so I got this for him as decoration and to occasionally buddy-box him with it. He doesn't fly. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

This is incorrect. The 120 SR is much smaller and is fixed-pitch. The SR and SR Huey are collective-pitch.
120 SR = great learning heli
SR = crap _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Thanks Nick - I meant to say SR, still had the 120SR on my typing fingers.
So, are you saying that both the SR and the Huey gunship are ones to stay away from? As I posted earlier I am considering adding the 120SR to the hanger here once I have become confident in flying the FP mSRX which is a lot of fun. _________________ Keep Em Flying

If you can fly the mSR X then you can fly the 120 SR. The 120 SR is simply a larger version of the old mSR.
It still has the self-correcting 45° flybar so it might actually be easier for you to fly than the mSR X, but it won't be as agile. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

OK...So if the 120 SR is a far better heli to learn with, then would you recomend the radio that comes with it or would i be better off with the DXI6 ???....I have considered buying the radio to expand with but am not sure if it will help me that much at my stage of the hobby. _________________ Indiana, USA

If you can afford it absolutely go for the DX6i, then you can get the BNF version of the 120 SR.
There's not really anything wrong with the RTF transmitter, but the level of customization the DX6i provides makes it look like a toy. You'll also be able to bind your mCX to it and squeeze more precision control out of it.
If you ever plan on moving on to more advanced collective-pitch helis, you're going to need a 6-channel transmitter anyway. _________________ Align: Trex 250 3GX + Trex 450 Pro with Vbar

Just to clarify the 120sr is on the left. SR c/p on the right
I base my opinion on having both models.
The Blade 120sr is a nice little heli and even better with a DX6i
The bigger SR c/p is ok but the tail motor is really annoying and its not a helicopter i would recommend to learn on.
A couple of guys on helifreak say the scale body is real pain and does not take crash damage too well |

I just HATE anything with a tail motor.
