I guess lots of people use FMS but I found it to be more trouble than it was worth. I got ClearView. Clearview is a $ 39.95 a year but the graphics are great and there are lots of helicopters and planes to chose from. There are also other free simulators available on the net. I don't know of another free one but someone will be along shortly to help you. I would use ClearView if I was you. ClearView has a free trial period if you care to try.

I never did get FMS to work on my Vista machine.

Just looked at the forum - I beleive HeliSim is a free Simulator.

Yes! - I'm assuming that you are talking about the E-sky Simulator FMS controller.

Your helicopter controller will also work if you have the USB connector. Most Helicopters come with the USB cord. My Esky Lama did and my E-Flite CP Pro 2 did. Nice thing about the E-Sky simulator controller is that it get it's power from the USB connection and does not use batteries.

Just my €0.02 worth. The price Pjdog quoted for ClearView is for life not a year and you can even run a portable as well as your main machine on the same license fee as a backup. Just contact ClearView support for the code numbers.

I'm glad to hear that. I thought I was going to have to cough up $ 39.95 a year. I bought it for life. Good deal.

PostPost subject: Video card problem with FMS
Reply with quote

If FMS just won't run on your system and you get either a white screen or a really bad flicker with no plane or heli, it's a problem with FMS not liking NVidea cards. Possibly one of the most popular video cards around and FMS simply doesn't like them. There are no patches of fixes but you can switch the graphics to 640 x 480 and you'll get a rock steady picture. The only problem is it looks like it's written back in 1980 for a 286. There are no new releases which work so give up on it or buy a different brand video cards. If you use a laptop, forget that too, you can't change the card. Give Pre-Flight a try. It leaves all the cheapies for dead and you get a dongle to double your inputs, 3d glasses, cable and CD. All for about $29.00 AUD. with lifetime updates. Google it and you'll be surprised what you get for your money. On-line or LAN flying against your mates the works.
You can even download the latest version for a demo or if you pay you can download it and use it until the goodies turn up in the mail.

A shame about FMS, I have about 400 aircraft for it and can't use it. FMS has been dead for about 3 years anyway. No one is working to improve it, they gave it up.

G'day Bluedog,

Took a look at the Pre-Flight site, seems that all units are "Temporarily Unavailable." Nowhere could I find a price for any of the modules, seems that if you want the full thing you have to buy several, but I could be wrong. I'm downloading the demo version and I'll check that out. The 3D vision could give it a big advantage over some of the others, but of course unless you have the glasses you can't see it!

I'm afraid you're wrong mate. Preflight is one payment for everything for life. I got mine about 3 months ago and got all the goodies plus the program on CD and only last week I got an email to say to log on and download the latest update. And what an update it was. It improved the whole program extremely well. And someone is working on the next update right now.
I'm not talking about bug fixes but complete re-writes of the whole program. If there's something you don't like about the program you can actually tell them and they will change it if they can. There are modules like Lan and on-line playing and something called Airshow and of course the program but they all come in the one package and you can't get them seperately.
I must admit the site is a bit hard to follow but a quick email to them will get you the answers. The owner's name is Jose I think and he lives in Canberra Australia. Just don't bother about the forum. It's more like a bulletin board.
The guy will even send out a CD of the full new release every time it's changed for a mere $5 to anywhere in the world. But you have to be a member first.

So remember, ONE payment and ONE program, NO modules.

This looks like two modules to me mate, or do they throw them in?

I just went to the public page of Preflight and You're right about the Temporarily out of stock. There must be a problem and a major one. The owner manager must be in hospital or something or maybe worse. I can't see why he'd be out of stock unless maybe his copying gear is U/S. Then again he could still sell it if it was downloaded from the Net. I'd send you the link but I'd have to send my pass key as well and that's not legal. I sent him off an email but he's not answering. Jose's a nice bloke and very helpful. I only got an email from him on Friday regarding the new release.
I think I know what you think are modules (you should explain yourself better) you can get model specific versions. You still get all the standard aircraft but you can specify the actual version of the helis you're interested in. I got the Superheli version which gave me a good cross selection. But it doen't matter because you can still download anything else you want once you buy the program. I missed the temporary comment because I went to the member's site and not the public one. I'll keep a check on things.
