For those of you who order blades online, please beware of the issues with the 'PRO 3d' blades found on xheli and hobbypartz.com's websites, respectively.

I have ordered 4 pairs now of the carbon fiber edition and each has been horribly unbalanced. Thankfully due to the number I bought, I can mix and match pairs until I get something close to a balance, then finish it out with tape.

During balancing sometimes one blade would be ultra heavy comparatively, so much so that tape wouldn't fix the issue and I had to swap blades until I got the heavies together, then lights together. After that though the balancing went smoothly and its a non-issue. But for those who don't order in bulk, this may prove a problem.

Just wanted to give a heads up.

TBH - for learning CF blades are in my opinion money wasted ...

For ages I've been using GRP (Glass fibre) blades at far less cost from such as Abeyyr and others on ebay. I can buy a pack of 8, in pairs that are reasonably balanced out of package. Price ? 4 pairs at less than 1 pair CF blades.
I then was advised by a better heli flyer than me - that's not hard !! - that he uses woodies at even less cost than mine !! Guess where from ........ Hobbyking ......

I bought a set and was amazed at how light they are, balance was spot on, careful checking of finish showed no scars, thin cover or anything to cause concern. Fitted ............ flew really nice. And these are the cheap HK Baked finish woodies for about 80 cents a pair !!

CF blades will be much later for me before I use .... my pocket couldn't suffer the ongoing cost !!

Solentlife, could you please link the hobbyking blades you're referring to? I couldn't find them through search function on the website.

Those are comparable in price, if not more expensive, then the EXI's I already use...I may just stick to this then.

OOOOPs sorry .... just noted that the 2 was missing from the price !! I was typing when half asleep and also from memory ...

link is :
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14011
at $2.79 a pair .... I meant to type $2.80

When I order other gear from HK - I get them to throw a pair in as well as I usually have spare post capacity.

I think there are cheaper on HK than those ... but so far they've been excellent and well balanced.

Thanks for that link Solentlife - don't know why I couldn't find it myself.

Means I can get 3 pairs sent to me for a total of $14.36 USD. Got to be a good deal compared to the $9.99/pair + shipping from the US. No free shipping from the US to here and it's already more than the $5.78 total that HK would charge me for a single pair.

Tom.

Like everything ... there's always going to be a bad blade at some time .. and that IMHO applies to no matter how much you spend.

So far I have been happy with them, and like I say - if you are ordering other items - get them to throw a pair or 2 in as postage will effectively be zero.

How do I get them to throw in some blades? Is there a form I fill or do I e-mail them?

Hi celticveil,

With Hobby King, you order your prime requirements, then check the totals in your basket. They will tell you how much more weight you can add within the shipping bracket that you have. 60g or more left and you can add your blades. I usually throw in a length or 3 of coloured shrink wrap. Weighs almost nothing.

Tom.

Thats brilliant marketing right there. Too bad hobbypartz and xheli don't offer that as well! I'll be sure to try HK soon then.

They also list possible shipping methods and pricing of these ... along with weights etc. allowed.

As another says ... as you add to your basket and then view it - they tell you how much you have left you can add to the maximum of shipping method you choose.

So like he says - you throw in somethings light that you want ... I've put in Hex Driver 1.5mm, wood rotor blades, props for my fixed wing models, even odd brushless motors etc.

It's worth loking at their LiPos as well ... if you are just buying blades - you may have enough spare to add a LiPo or 2 !!
