Hi all,
Was wondering what are all your rc helicopter practice routines. I have tried my hand on a simulator (the Phoenix and also the Realflight) and have to say they absolutely help! But they're not the real thing... So I am going to go and buy one but was wondering if rc helicopter practice routines should be more of exclusive sim time until mastery then real flight or switch between real flight and sim time since the get-go? Would appreciate any opinions, thanks in advance

Hi itsame,
No simulator will teach you to fly, it can only teach you how to fly.
There is a big difference. However, what the sim does do is teach you muscle/stick/brain co-ordination and that is the first essential for flying. Keep practising on the sim until you can hold the model in hover around head height, just in front of you without it going off on its own for at least 3 minutes. Then: use Radds for the 10 or so batteries required and you'll do fine.

Tombo is absolutely right.
Sim only helps you use stick control.
I thought I can flight very well on sim but my first real flight only last less than a mitute then crashed.

lol wow that has to suck!!!! so ive decided to purchase a dynam e-razor 450 6 channel 3d! lol... i have both 3 channel and 4 channel fixed pitch helis, need something more challenging. other than learning from a sim. what are some of the basic controls? are they somewhat similar to a 4 channel? other than you have to use both thumbs together?

Hi Jathanjr,
If you stay in 'Normal' mode the 6 channel is much like a fixed pitch to fly, perhaps faster to respond, like the 'flyer' in the video found out - very easily overcontroled (unlike a 3 channel which I would never recommend for learning to anyone).
It's only when you get into 'F-Mode' that the differences are most pronounced, mainly the increasing power on neg pitch and the inverted control. I really would recommend using a sim for this as serious crashes are just about unavoidable and very expensive when inverted. Previous RC experience is not a lot of help here, your muscles have to be retrained to fly an inverted helicopter. Don't even think about it until you experience it on a sim. (Even a free one is better than none at all!)

Hi Jathanir,
Don't discount using a SIM, even the professionals do before they try a new maneuver for real.
There is no difference in the way you use the controls of a 6 channel that you would notice, the extra channels are mixed in the transmitter, however the helicopter responds differently, for instance Right aileron moves a 4 channel to the right, right aileron in a 6 channel rolls the helicopter to the right.
