Along with the Big Lama that's a good choice.

Pros:
Good makes, plenty of spares available.

Cons:
Radio does not allow for setting up for different flight styles.

This is how I converted the BL to DX6i

This is the use of dual rates to help avoid blade strikes and give different flight feels.

Tom.

Thanks Tom, I was hoping that was a good one as i'm leaning toward that or the big lama.... None of my current helis have changeable flight styles, honestly I don't know to what you refer...

If you could elaborate on that, I would be eternally grateful...

Thanks again for the help...

He's referring to dual rates.

Computerized transmitters allow you to reduce servo travel on the elevator/aileron channels with the flick of a switch to create a kind of "beginner mode." Or in this case, to reduce blade strike.

I gotcha.. Man I have a lot to learn about this hobby.. I'm having a blast with it so far though. I'll have to do a bit more research on the transmitter types and functions as well as servos and the like... Thanks for the help gentlemen..

Thanks Nick, I do tend to leave out some things which I perhaps should not. (Hate to sound patronising Confused .) In this case you are 100% correct to step in. Smile

You know, beginning a hobby like RC flying is a somewhat stressful thing. So many choices, so many types of RC etc, and SO EXPENSIVE (if it goes wrong!!)
I really appreciate the advice some of you experienced flyers out there are willing to impart to us beginners. We NEED feedback like this and NEVER underestimate it's value.
I have a question for you therefore and it is simply, "Is the Valkera a decent/good choice for a beginner"? The reason I'm asking is that SO MANY of you seem to own and have praise for them. I need something that's not going to crap out on me and can take a few 'mild' crashes here and there. I saw that one of Valkera's models (for a fee of about $33) can be upgraded to virtually indestructable parts (I'm talking rotor and tail rotor here) which would be GREAT for someone like me. They even 'sandpapered' a metal kitchen stool with the tail rotor and deliberately flew it into the chair!!!
Wow! NO DAMAGE. It flew perfectly afterwards (unless their editing of the video is flawless)
Waddaya think guys? Valkera or 'Valhalla'!!?

For the most part, no, Walkera isn't great for beginners. Most of their models are pretty heavy and very rigid; built for performance, not for crashing. One exception is the Genius CP; it's as tough, if not tougher, than the mCP X and even has a "6-axis gyro mode" which gives it almost co-axial like stability.

But in general, the Blade/E-flite line of helicopters is much more suited towards beginners.
