Well I sheered my first Jesus Bolt this last weekend..
I got my V1 all decked out with a new Castle 45HV with a BEC setup for 6V and a scorpion -8 motor and have been loving the power.
I can't bog the head, no matter how bad my collective managment is at times..
I have been practicing a new move (don't know what it's called)
As you fly by you flip up the heli till it's almost inverted and then give negative pitch shooting it upward while doing a full piro at the same time, then giving it positive pitch flying back out of it like coming out of a loop.
It's alot of fun and looks and sounds so cool as it shoots skyward.
I did about 3 in a row on sunday. As I entered the fourth and hit negative pitch, the jesus bolt sheered off, causing the entire head to fall off in mid air. I have never seen anything like that. It just fell to the ground.
List of parts needed: feather shaft, main shaft, jesus bold, main gear, tail boom, boom supports, tail shaft, tail belt, paddles, tail blades, main blades, canopy and a bunch of links that got all twisted up.
I guess it's time to find a stronger bolt then the one Align offers..
The only good thing out of this is, at least it was my little one and not my 600. Instead of costing about 50 bucks to repair, it might have been over 300.. Now I have something new to add to my check list before I fly.. |

With that list of replacement parts it sounds like your going to need another helicopter.

I had all the parts in stock to rebuild her but the blades and paddles.
I have to order the paddles, they were my favorite ones, Gorrilla paddles.
So for now I'll have to use the stock ones..
I am going to wait to order them since I'll be in Vegas next weekend for the Align fun fly. I'll be coming home with some goodies while I am there, I am sure of it.. |

Had that happen to me once, at least I'm pretty sure it was the bolt letting go on me. It happened so fast. One second everything was fine, then bang! It really tore itself up too, blade grip bent, bearings shot, rotor head bent...
I'm thinking that when going into idle up the head speed change rate was set too high on the ESC and the sudden burst of power weakened the bolt over time. |

I don't know what a Jesus bolt is. Can you take a picture of one? I must be important cause it must hold everything together. |

It's the bolt that secures the rotor head to the main shaft and or the bolt holding the spur gear on the main shaft.
(It's called the Jesus bolt because if it breaks that's the last thing you'll hear the pilot say before the heli comes crashing down to Earth ) |

Most Jesus bolts seem to be M2, I find this supplier cheaper than any stock bolts and the stainless steel seem to be just a little stronger. |

Thanks for the link tombo, I'll check it out.
Maybe order some extras and change it out later. |
