I have as indicated on our Big Lama Facebook page an event to take place soon. The goal/event is to fly to the top of Morro Rock in Morro Bay, Ca. At an elevation of 576'. Once the top of the “Rock” is cleared I'll make a sweeping turn out over the ocean then head back over the beach descending for a landing where I took off. I have been doing climb to altitude tests at my home flying field in preparation for this event. So far I’ve achieved an altitude of just over 400' AGL (above ground level). Now that our weather is improving and we are approaching sunny calm mornings I plan now to move to Morro Rock for climb to altitude tests there to prepare for the event/flight. I will have a ground crew with me consisting of several people helping me in different areas as well as orientation if needed. Thus far at 400' AGL I've had no problems with orientation. This should prove to be a pretty spectacular flight and video with a tremendous view. I will update this thread as we proceed.

Below is another climb to altitude test I did this morning from home flying field. The plan is to move these test flights now to Morro Rock as weather allows. Video is in HD (720p) and best viewed in YouTube. Feel free to stop by our public Big Lama Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ESkyBigLamaPage

Update 9-8-2012....

Big Lama triple head Saturday morning flights.

Winds were calm this morning so headed to Morro Rock for the first climb to altitude tests there however the breeze had already picked up by the time I got there. At least got my take off area and safety zones established. Will head down every morning and hope the wind cooperates. I think I need to leave a tad earlier. Winds can vary here due to micro climates so tried 2 other locales, but the breeze was just too much for safe flying. Had there been no breeze this morning I may have cleared the Rock however going to make a few lower attempts first to get the feel for the altitude before the big event. It's all weather dependent, but our transition to calm clear mornings has begun. Long video due to 3 locales, sorry. Video is in HD (720p) and best viewed in YouTube. Big lama #2 Sunday Climb to altitude test 9-9-2012

Well had a brief calm spell so darted out back for yet another altitude attempt. It's spooky sometimes and have to pay close attention as you never know what the upper winds are doing so you have to be ready to bail if needed lol. This mornings flight was highest yet as you can see by the ocean view. Roughly 450'. Getting closer to the Big Event, just depending on the weather change now. Video is in HD (720p) and best viewed in YouTube. Feel free to stop by our public Big Lama Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/ESkyBigLamaPage

Good flight Tony, you do have to watch those higher winds, almost always fiercer as you go up.
