Hi Oldmanflier,

How high are you when this happens. If you are very close to a smooth hard surface and leaning to the right, the slipstream of the tail rotor could be reflecting back up to the right side of the main rotor and increasing the lift, throwing the heli left.

Eye level is the best height to be at, the main rotor is easier to keep horizontal and stabilise the heli, also you are clear of ground effects.

Once you are off the ground it should stay put. They only slide to the left during lift off. Are you holding rite aleron just to keep it in place? If you let go, does it move left? If so then your swash plate is not level.

I'd also think that's just ground effect rotor wash. If you have the swash level at 50% throttle/collective stick then it should hover level. Unless of corse there is something like a wall nearby that deflects the rotor wind force back at the heli.

Oh great heli god Crashagain, you were right. The swash plate was not levle, it was off by about 1/64" at 50% throttle. It is now fixed, and the next flight will be on grass not concrete. Thanks for your help

Does anybody have suggestion for pitch curve setting for hovering and forward flight like figure eights and circles. Can't fly my trex 450 very well with the recommended settings from Finless Bob on Helifreak.com. I made it through the first battery but crashed on the second battery, broke the landing skids, and the main blades.

Well here is my pitch curve setting for hovering and forward flight
1 2 3 4 5
40 45 50 68 85

She is ready to fly again, only cost me $13.00 to fix it. That was for the align pro wood 355mm blades.

Hey guy's, I had a convenience building day today. Three battery packs and no crashes, the pitch curve setting that I posted yesterday did the trick. Plus the 355 mm Align pro woody's, she hovered real nice. I was bring it up to about 30 ft and back down, went forward about 40 ft and back, side to side about 25 ft. And I was practing soft landings, and on the last pack I was popping it up to 40 ft fast and back down fast and stopping it about 5 ft off the ground. I am one happy old man.

Glad to hear you are having some stick time..
Coming from where you are at and how excited I was to do new things, I would suggest one thing... Dont do the sudden up's and down's as well as really fast tail spins.. Keep it slow and controled in all orientations, then when you feel ready take the heli up in the air a bit so if you screw up you are not so close to the ground and have some fun..
In normal mode hovering when you do those little pitch pumps, you are moving in a lower head speed, and falling in dirty air. You can easily get the heli in a decent that you can't stop.

Well done Oldmanflyer Cool .

That's the best advice you could get, good of Crash to post it. If others do not follow it as well they've only got themselves to blame.

It is a pity that Radd did not add the sudden descent warning to his excellent course. However, he is only concerned with getting safely into the air for cruising around as a first stage.
