Trust me.. You won't regret it.. I find myself still going back to the basics once in a while and will start to do it more..
A couple of weeks ago, I flew my 600 and did no 3D at all. I just flew circles in both directions, and figure eights in both directions and steady hovers in all orientaions... It was hard to do.. I found myself really having to think about what I was doing.
You get so used to a set routine, and pattern that you skip the basics, slowly moving the heli where you want it, good practice..

Agreed there, I find even flying my little indoor heli is good for practise, flying sideways under the table and doing figure 8's around the legs can be quite disorientating.
Requires good 3 dimensional skills Shocked

I discovered yesterday that my tail rotor was spinning the wrong way, I fixed it and now the heli spins fast to the left on spool-up. Any suggestion what is wrong. Thanks Sad

Try reversing the gyro direction and rudder direction in the Tx rurred channel.
If it's still spinning counterclockwise could be a couple of things wrong.
-a gear in the tail could be slipping. Hold the tail blades and give the main blades a light turn. It shouldn't turn, even with enough force to make the belt jump a tooth (presuming it's belt drive).
-gyro malfunction.
-slider on the tail shaft is bindind.
I could go on, but I'd bet one of them three is the culprit.

Hi Dumb Thumbs,
First thing I did was recalibate the gyro to the tx. Then I notice that I had to reverse the rudder stick in the tx. Now it will spin either right or left, but if you get to hold and then spool-up it will spin really fast to the left. I have a Hitec HG-5000 GYRO & HSG-5083MG servo combo set. The TL light is on and the 4th red led is on Confused

Dumb Thumbs, I found the problem, I had to change the gyro direction on the gyro menu. I made the change and now its ok. Thanks for your help, now I can go hover tomorrow.

Hi Tombo, well I have now successfully hovered 10 times in the past two weeks. I've been practicing moving to a spot and doing a soft landing, then take-off and hover over to another spot and do a soft landing. Next I'm going to do the same thing but I'm going to go farther each time. After that I'm going to start side-in hovering, right and left. Smile Smile

How critical is lateral play in the feathering shaft. my blade holder has some play in it. But only on one side, about 3 to 4 thousandths of an inch.

I wouldn't worry too much about a tiny bit of slop, but I'd investagate a little.
Tear down the head and check the damper rubbers, blade holder bearings and thrust bearings for any abnormal play just to be safe. At 3,000 RPM's and centrifugal force at work the blades will always tend to forgive a bit of slop you may see on the bench, but I'd still look into "WHY"?
It's good you watch for things like this BTW. A through preflight check can really save you a lot of $$ or even injury.

Thanks DT, like I said before I've learned the hard way about pre-flight checks.
