Well after a couple weeks of this and that my Big Lama has been successfully converted to the DX6i with an Orange Rx. Took a lot of unique trimming and other little items and of course getting used to the DX6i which is much different than the stock Tx. The E500 has been done too, but still needs fine tuning. That's next. it's so nice to have all the heli's on 1 Tx!
The next issue was even more challenging after the tear down and DX6i/Rx part was getting the cam mount for the 808 HD #11 cam squared away. What a PITA! Got it sorted out though and it's as good as it'll get. In the process the last change I made was moving the cam back to the point of CG. It had been quite a ways forward which caused a lot of vibes and oscillations in video. In the process of doing so I got rid of that horrible harmonic humming noise in the videos. Now all you hear are the motors/blades. That harmonic humming was irritating as all heck. The heli really flies well now and so smooth. It's nice having the digital trim over the stock trim as well as having control over the DR/Expo. Really never gave it much thought in a coaxial, but it does make a heck of a difference! Kudos to Spooner for his help on the whole project! Of course Tombo242 made it all possible to begin with.
For more info on the project and other stuff feel free to visit/join in at our Big Lama Facebook page at Big Lama Facebook Page at http://www.facebook.com/ESkyBigLamaPage Not just Big Lama stuff so everyone is welcome and can post their pics and videos etc. Just a little heli community, not a forum. Now time to move on back to the beach, harbor and other locations for in-flight videos! :coool:
Here's a video of the last "test flight" below. After a few last minute tweaks at home field off to the park I went. The video is in HD and best viewed in YouTube.

I agree, that is pretty smooth for the Lama. Mine come out so shaky I cant use them. I think one problem is that my blades need to be balanced. Gonna try and make a blade balancer using an old set of blade grips. Just got back in town so now I can get the new motors tombo reccomended.

Alrighty then. Back in buisiness. It looks like they are here in the US already. Also $26.99 plus shipping seems right to me for two motors. Sold. Thanks for the link again.
Tom
Question, is this suppose to be for two motors. Just wondering cause when I clicked on the buy tab it just said for the A motor. Just wondering if you guys bought from them before.

No probs there Tom,
The add clearly states "Upgrade 370 Bearing Motor 12T A & B Big Lama EK1-0008A" I certainly got both A & B motors. Some confusion may be caused in the translation from the Chinese text as they do not often differentiate between single and plural. To say "two motor" is quite OK.
You see this again later with "AFCsystem Upgarded 370 Bearing Motor (A) & (B) w/12T for Esky Big Lama" Note the "Upgarded" not "Upgraded" and the clear statement "(A) & (B)"

Thanks tombo. Made a blade balancer from the old blade grips and it works great. After the new motors arrive I plan to take another attemp at using the orange Rx. Thanks again.

OK Tom,
You're very welcome.
Still can't figure out why that did not work. The same settings have been used on 5 helis with great success to my knowlege (2 are mine). It has to be something simple.

Motors have been ordered. When I get the motors I plan to try the orange Rx also. My last attempt failed so I just put it on hold. Since I have to take the Lama apart to put the motors in I might as well go for the Rx at the same time. Now if I could just find the correct decals for my military version Lama. I know its not a UH-1 but I could use the decals if I find them. The Lama looks more like the Bell Jet Ranger. Oh well tomorrows another day. Have a good day all.

Slight problem there Tom, Vid needs to be seen in RealPlayer or similar and is too small to see any detail. Just won't go larger than it is on my computer, about two postage stamps in area.
