|
|
I've read bits and pieces where several have used a Spektrum AR6100e and their DX6i with the Big Lama's. I'm tired of all the Tx's lying around and would liek to do this. Most articles I've read have only been partial information. One says heli the other say arco, some say plug this and that into this and that channel and even screen shots of settings in the DX6i, but no complete setup instructions, just bits and pieces.
Has anyone done this with success and willing to share the setup? I've Goggled it to death and only find bits and pieces. |

Hey firedude52:
Tombo242 will help you out here. He did this about a year ago.
He'll be along tomorrow and give you the skinny on it.
He live in Portugal so he's in bed now.
If you search this forum you will find his thread on it.

Thanks Jack. Yeah I've searched already, but have gotten conflicting and/or incomplete setup info. We'll see if he can help. Thanks |

OK folks I'm here!
I used the cheap 'Orange' DSM2 compatible Rx, Aileron & Elevator connect to the same channels on the Lama 3-in-1, but after that you need the following. Got two PDFs on Spektrum and the Big Lama for you to download:
Curing the 'Power' problem.
Reducing 'Blade Strikes'.
Any problems just ask.

Thanks Tom! I've had your PDF's downloaded for a bit, but in reading other posts here and other places some say model needs to be heli and some say arco? Looking at your PDF's it appears to be heli to me correct? Some have said certain things plug in different places etc. Maybe it's an issue with the AR6100e? Guess I can pick up a couple orange Rx's, but wanted to understand the set up first. I can try my AR6100e first. I haven't yet due to the confusion and conflicting posts I've read which turned the procedure into a nightmare lol.
So basically you're saying if I understand correctly everything plugs in the same I just need the settings from your PDF for the Tx correct? Appreciate the help Tom.
On edit: I've got 2 of the Orange Rx's coming probably Monday from local eBay dealer just over the hill from me in case there are issues with the AR6100e. |

Tom also you state in the one PDF at the top "Finally plug the Gear O/P into the Rudder channel on theLama 3-in-1". Can you clarify that for me? The rest of the 2 PDF's I understand. |

Hi Tony,
Heli it is for sure. Here's a pic of the 'Orange' Rx in my BL.
(Click for full size.)
It's the 'Rudder' lead from the 3-in-1 that you plug into the 'Gear' channel. It will have been plugged into the 'Rudder' channel on the old Rx - but that set-up negates any power to the motors. (Please don't ask why, I haven't figured it out myself!! )

Tom I suppose no other settings need changing such as gyro or such? I'll be programming from default heli settings in the DX6i when I do this. I'm also assuming the rudder lead from the 3 in 1 is the "rear motor" lead since the eSky manual nor the Rx are labeled except by numbers etc. Just making sure. Thanks!
I thought while I waited on the Orange Rx's I'd program my BL and E500 models in the DX6i. When I go to program the DR/Expo in say #1 position and save it then go to the #2 position to make those settings it changes one of the settings in the other position? I will most likely fly in the normal BL mode at first anyway and would have to manually change that position if I wanted the different flight characteristics. For some reason it's not letting me program #1 without making a change to #2 and the other way around?
I'm also assuming all this programming in the Tx can be done prior to powering heli? |

Hi Tony,
I can't reproduce the effect that you describe. Perhaps a description of how you get to that stage might help. It could be that your D/R Combi is not set correctly.
However, I have a full list of all my settings for the DX6i/Big lama for download here in a text file. All this can be set up without the heli powered up (or even present)!
Seems to cover everything, let me know about any problems.

Thanks for the settings doc Tom. I think there's a typo. I believe the 58 should an 85
D/R&EXPO (as per PDF)
Pos '0' AILE 85% - 20%; ELEV 58% - 20%, RUDD 100% INH
Pos '1' AILE 85% + 10%; ELEV 58% + 10%, RUDD 100% INH
DR/Expo issue resolved

Sorry Tony - should have made that clear.
When setting the Travel Adjust, if you move the stick you will see the guide arrows change. Not easy to see at first, but once seen you will wonder what the problem was.
Top one shows rudder left; bottom one rudder right. (i.e. Both ways.) You MUST move the sticks to see/set this.
You are correct 85% it should be (dislexia rules KO)!

I caught the DR/Expo thing lol.
Thanks for clarifying Now I'll double check all settings and wait on the Orange Rx's today or Monday. If I find another issue I'll yell, but looking good |
